by Shot Science Basketball 704,260 views
Have you ever wondered how to develop PERFECT shooting mechanics? How about developing dead-on accuracy?
http://www.shotscience.com
This week Tom discusses how to use the "Form Shooting Drill" to develop your shot by creating muscle memory. If used regularly and with focused self-discipline, this drill will get your shot to become second-nature and you will be able to progressively step back and develop your long-range shooting.
All of my sons and students have used this very simple drill to develop their "ShotScience Approved" forms. This is THE drill to get your shot PERFECTED!!

Not Guide Hand, ASSIST Hand!!! -- How to Shoot a Basketball -- Shot Science
by Shot Science Basketball 123,821 views
Have you ever wondered what your off-hand (non-shooting or "guide" hand) should be doing when you are shooting a basketball?
http://www.shotscience.com
In this video, Coach Tom discusses how to turn your "Guide Hand" into an "Assist Hand." In no uncertain terms, the Assist hand should not be involved at all with the shot once your shooting-arm begins its extension towards the basket; it should only "assist" in supporting the ball as you hold it in the Set Point. As the shot extends, the assist hand releases and falls away. There is no guiding of the shot at all! When you shoot a basketball, you should essentially be shooting a One-Armed shot!!
If you're struggling with where to put your off-hand and how much pressure to use, try our tips and we think you'll be very happy with the results! Let us know what you think in the comments.
Just so you know, there are many more ball handling/dribble videos coming and, of course, tons more videos on all things basketball!!

TARGET FOR SHOOTING! -- Aim for the NEST -- How to Shoot a Basketball -- Shot Science
by Shot Science Basketball 113,971 views
Watch our NEWER videos HERE: http://www.youtube.com/ShotScience
Have you ever wondered what target to aim for when you are shooting a basketball?
In this video, Coach Tom discusses how to properly aim your shot towards the basket and greatly increase your accuracy. We hope to illustrate that aiming for specific targets on the rim will only hurt your shooting, while softening your focus to the entire diameter of the rim will provide you with a much higher margin for error. Also, your main objective is to put the ball through the rim, so why would you aim for areas that will almost certainly yield consistent misses.
If you're struggling with where to aim, try our suggestion for a target and let us know how it works for you. We know there are many approaches out there (successful for some), but we think this is a great approach for locking in your shooting eye.

DON'T SQUARE UP your FEET!! How to shoot a basketball -- Shot Science Basketball
by Shot Science Basketball 123,852 views
WHY YOU SHOULDN'T SQUARE UP YOUR FEET TO SHOOT!
Watch our NEWER videos HERE: http://www.youtube.com/ShotScience
Where do I put my FEET when shooting a basketball?
In this video, we explain where you feet should be placed when you go into a shot. We suggest a slight stagger that isn't squared to the hoop. This allows you to properly line up your shooting arm with your target, which is more comfortable and ergonomic. When you square your entire body, you're forced to bring your arm across your body, which is not a natural position and will likely result in lower percentage shooting. Give our approach a try and you'll love it!

If you've been having trouble shooting long shots, especially behind the line for 3 pointers, then you probably need to generate more power by using your legs. Most people think you need to use your arms and upper body to get the ball to the hoop, but your lower body has all of the large, powerful muscles that you need. Get down in the chair and extend your RANGE out DEEP!!

Get Your Shot Off Quicker (Dip Rhythm) - How to Shoot a Basketball Video Blog (Watch in HD)

How to shoot a Basketball - Quick Release
In today's installment, we're taking a look at how to get your shot off quicker; an important consideration when trying to shoot over the defense. Often we see players utilizing a method we refer to as "Dip Rhythm" to gather themselves as they go into the shot. This is a time costly method and a waste of ball movement. We believe a much better alternative is something we call "Up Rhythm." This alternative will greatly hasten your shot and give you a much better chance of avoiding the defense blocking your shot.
The key to "Up Rhythm" is not only in eliminating the dipping of the ball, but also in the footwork prior to catching the ball. We'll be exploring this very important topic in an upcoming downloadable video on our website, so please bookmark us!

In this video, Coach Tom Curtiss explains how to get a RELAXED Finger Finish on your shot. You don't want to flick your wrist, instead you want to have your hand gently "Flop" over the top of your wrist. This will produce a very gentle rotation, which is essential for a soft rebound up with a second chance at going in.

In today's video, Coach Tom explains why your shot can become inconsistent when you don't put in the regular training time needed to develop and maintain your shot. This is a subject we try to stress to our students from the beginning. You need to get in a little time as often as possible. Longer sessions spread apart with large gaps in time actually are less effective than shorter sessions with more frequency. So get your time in!

--------------
In today's video, Coach Tom teaches you how to assess whether you're taking a GOOD shot or a BAD Shot. You can do this by using this simple Shot Selection Checklist:
1. Is this shot IN MY RANGE?
2. Am I BEING CONTESTED?
3. Is this a HIGH PERCENTAGE SHOT?
4. Do I have the BEST LOOK AT THE BASKET right now? (Or does a teammate?)
5. Is this a TIMELY SHOT?
6. Does this shot fit my team's OFFENSIVE OBJECTIVES?
Ask yourself these questions as you're considering shooting the ball. Eventually this will be a spontaneous assessment that you won't have to even think about, but these questions will help you build a solid shot selection process.

--------------
In today's video, Coach Chase explains why you shouldn't lay the ball in over the front rim! So often we see young players going in for open layups and missing because they decided to go for STYLE POINTS INSTEAD OF ACTUAL POINTS. When you don't use the backboard on layups, you have to be much more accurate by making sure you get the ball DIRECTLY into the center of the rim. When you use the backboard, you simply need to lay the ball gently in the "SWEET SPOT" and the ball will always fall. Another bonus is that you get a vertical target to lay the ball against instead of a horizontal target above your head that you have to visualize hitting.
So if you're looking to score points, USE THE BACKBOARD! Going over the front rim may look cool, but can frequently get you in trouble. BE SMART, Team!!
