    Clever Aluminum Foil Hacks!

    by HouseholdHacker 555,129 views

Quick and Simple life hacks: FOIL EDITION!
    1. Need to scrape off the grill but can't find that wire brush? Ball up the foil, get it deep between the grates and go to town.

    2. Want to save some serious time ironing your clothes? Put a long strip of foil on top of the ironing board and replace the cover. Go to town. With all that heat reflection you can take care of both sides at once.

    3. Can't find the correct sized battery? Easily make up the difference with a little well placed foil goodness. We've covered this one before but its definitely worth repeating.

    4. Hate struggling to move large pieces of furniture? No need to buy pricey sliders. Put a little foil on the bottom of the legs and glide on through.

    5. Love bacon but hate getting rid of the grease? Dump it into a makeshift foil bowl. Once it hardens, ball it up and toss it out.

    6. And finally, if you can't find a funnel. Roll one out of foil instead. Transferring fluids has never been so easy.

    Thanks for watching!

    Refillable Canned Air Hack!

    by HouseholdHacker 380,348 views

Canned air, a marvelous invention. The problem is that it doesn't last long and it isn't the cheapest thing out there. Let's solve that problem with a little hack. To pull this project off we're going to need a valve from an old bike tire, an air pump, and some super strong bonding agent.

Safety Note: Now before going any further, I made sure my can of air here, was completely empty and safe to use in this project. Once that is out of the way, we're ready to dive in.

A small hole is placed into the side of the can and a valve is added and then sealed. After it dries you can slowly air air into the can. You can look up MSDS sheets for the can you are using to find out exactly how much PSI it can handle. Just google the product name and add MSDS to the end. In my case it was about 76 PSI but I still kept the pressure far below this rating to stay extra safe.

Once air is added you will be able to pull off a nice long blast of air for all your cleaning needs.

Make an Instant Cloud in a Bottle!

    by HouseholdHacker 458,617 views

To make our own cloud we need rubbing alcohol, a plastic bottle, and a bike pump.
Pour a little bit of the alcohol into the plastic bottle. Then shake it around in circles
until the inside is fully coated and ready for battle.

Now comes your bike pump. I took a wine cork and put a hole in it so I could plug
the hole to the bottle up fully. But you can use anything laying around that
will prevent air from getting out when you pump.

Slowly give the air compressor about 4 or 5 big pumps. Then pull out the nozzle.
Holy Balloons! That there's a cloud. So what happened? Check the video!

And that's all there is to it. We made a tiny weather system in a plastic bottle...

    2 Minute Survival Stove

    by HouseholdHacker 288,355 views

The quickest and easiest way to build a simple survival stove lies in an empty can of tuna. Here is how to do it: Grab an empty tuna can or cat food can and punch about 22 holes in it around the top using a single hole puncher (yes it can take on aluminum).

After you have your can punched out, you are almost ready for action. Get yourself some methylated alcohol and pour about an ounce in. Spark it up and give the can about 1 minute to prime itself. Now take your boil pot and set it on top.

After about 4-5 minutes you will have a nice full boil and you will be ready to consume those MRE's you stored in your bunker.

AA Battery + Gum Wrapper Lighter

    by HouseholdHacker 507,296 views

Build a makeshift lighter. This sounds like a good idea, right? I managed to find tons of ways to do this. Here is my favorite.

Get a gum wrapper or the lining of a cigarette pack and cut a small sliver off the end, roughly about a quarter of an inch in width.
Now grab that sliver and fold it over itself once. Get some scissors and at a 4-5 degree angle cut out a triangle leaving a little bit of space at the end
    to keep the pieces connected.

Alright, you've got your wrapper, now you need a battery. AA is best but a tripple A, C or even D will work as well.

Touch the negative end of the battery to the one end of the wrapper and get that center piece under some kindling. When you are positioned,
touch and hold the other end of the wrapper to the positive contact point. A small flame will erupt from the wrapper and if you are quick you can
light something else from it, like a candle or some paper.

So that's it a simple survival lighter should you ever find yourself in the woods with a battery and some gum. Keep the comments coming and
    I'll see you next time.

Next, place some adhesive to the back of a large lego block (the size doesn't matter), and mount it to the wall.

That's about it! In just a few minutes you have a nice new key rack to store all of your keys for safe keeping.

LIFE HACKS -- 7 ways to open a Wine bottle without a corkscrew!

    by HouseholdHacker 1,637,724 views

Wine. The nectar of the gods. But what if your corkscrew mysteriously goes missing? We've got some simple ways to solve that problem so that you can get your drink on.

    1. Hit up your junk drawer and grab a screw hook. Apply it to the cork and get it snug. Now carefully and slowly wiggle out that cork and enjoy the fruit of your labor.

    2. Hit that junk drawer again. Find a thick screw and twist it down into the wine stopper. When you are done grab pliers or clippers and twist that bad boy out. Voila.

    3. This also can work with a large nail but you need to pound it in at a slight angle and then carefully remove the nail and cork with the back of a hammer. Take your time and you'll be fine.

    4. Now you might have heard that banging a bottle against the wall will pop the cork, and you would be right. However, it takes far too long to be effective so don't bother with this trick just move on to something better such as...

    5. The shoe string method. Want to really impress? Bore a hole in the cork and tye a big knot in a string. Shove that thing down there and then simply pull up hard on the rest of the string. Plipitty ploppy, time to get sloppy.

    6. This one is my favorite. You just need a serrated knife. Take your blade and thrust it into the depths of the evil cork. Now slowly and carefully twist and pull. The cork will be out in moments, unless your bottle is wearing chain mail.

    7. Finally, just to keep things fresh I will show you a new method that while not the easiest. Has some fun results. Grab a bike pump and shove the tube down a hole you bore in the cork. Give it some pressure and watch the cork rise. Once it is about halfway pull it with your hand and set it free.

Turn Whiskey into Water - 1Min Science

    by HouseholdHacker 446,546 views

Here's a cool whiskey trick! Grab a shot glass and fill it with water. Take another and fill it with whiskey.

Now that you have your full glasses, take a plastic card or coated paper and place it
over the glass that holds the water.

This next part is tricky, flip the glass over and rest it directly on top of the
the whiskey shot. When its securely in place, slowly move the card a bit in
to open up a small slit between the glasses.

You want this to be extra small or the liquids will mix fully.

Look at all that crazy science happen. You see, The water is heavier than
the alcohol so sinks to the bottom of the two glasses. In the process it displaces the
whiskey and forces it to the top.

This is a nifty old density experiment thats been around for ages. But that doesnt mean
you can't show it off to your friends, or use it to pick up chicks in the bar.

Oh! and the best part? you can still drink it... or save it for later.

If you don't have whiskey, try some rubbing alcohol with food coloring but
    definitely don't drink that...

MY FACEBOOK WAS HACKED?! How to NOT get hacked on public wi-fi

    by HouseholdHacker 544,064 views

Last year's video on people using Firesheep to hack your Facebook: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T8xaDoYNmg

THIS VIDEO is on how to protect yourself when using wifi sources outside of your home to eliminate any chance of outsiders snooping what you're up to online. This will encrypt 100% of your online traffic and keep hackers and online censors from knowing what you are up to online. You used to be only protected from people when you used HTTPS connections to websites but using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) will encrypt 100% of your data, ensuring no one will know what you're up to and prevent you from being hacked or having data stolen or monitored. Enjoy!

    Get Hotspot Shield at http://hotspotshield.com

If there is interest in how to make your own VPN using a home computer, let us know in the comments and a HouseholdHacker representative will read your comment shortly. Have a nice day, thank you for viewing.

Sound Reactive Flame Tube! (Rubens Tube)

    by HouseholdHacker 557,961 views

We are going to create a Flame Tube and run it through a series of quick tests to show how sound can affect fire!

The Flame Tube (Ruben's Tube) is a classic physics experiment where sound literally affects the size of the flames. As gas is fed into a perforated tube, any sound played through the tube will cause the gas pressure to change resulting in an interesting visual effect.

How to Turn Milk into Stone!

    by HouseholdHacker 1,913,726 views

How to turn milk into a hard plastic nearly as strong as stone! All we need for this simple kitchen science experiment is milk, vinegar and a strainer. You can make all kinds of shapes and designs using this "plastic-like" material. In fact, this is the stuff they used before plastic was around!

    Instructions:
Take 1 warm cup of milk and mix with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Basically, for every cup of milk you use, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar and you can make a much larger batch. Mix it together and strain out the curds that form. Once you dry it you can mold it into any shape you desire, but let it dry for a couple days first!

    Scientific Super Bubbles

    by HouseholdHacker 657,398 views

Welcome back to Science and we are glad to be back! Due to popular demand we took a Little break to energize and come up with a science show that can be released on any day. That being said what we did for this episode required us to figure out the perfect solution to make Super Sized bubbles.

The great news is that you will have all the ingredients laid out for you without the hassle of figuring out the exact amounts or items. Not only that but learn fun simple science facts about surface tension, physics, basic chemistry, air pressure, and even reflection and refraction of light...all from BUBBLES! Now that's the way to teach science class!!

There are a few ways to pull this off, in this episode we decided to use two wooden poles or dowel rods 50 cents each, two screw eyes (eye lit) to put in the top of each one and then cotton string to pull through the holes at the top and tie together. We then weighted it down with a simple metal washer. Grand total 5 bucks.

For the secret recipe to make these bubbles we also went through trial and error to figure out the best combination. All you need is a single bottle of glycerin (which helps the bubble from evaporating quickly an makes it thicker, dish washing soap, Karo syrup and water. For best results keep foam to a minimum and store in the fridge for 24 hours.

Those ingredients actually from a super thick solution that enables the bubbles to last much longer than natural, be more colorful and create Super Sized Bubbles that depending on the weather/wind could potentially be even much bigger than what we did in the video.

If you want to keep it simple and just make the solution you don't need as much of the chemicals, which are dirt cheap and can be bought all at the same store and use a normal bubble blower, just be sure to blow slowly and you will be amazed at just how massive these bubbles can get. If you have kids they will love it... even passers by will take a look.

The more you practice the better you will get to the point where you may become a bubble artist yourself!

    Emergency Solar Phone

    by HouseholdHacker 551,248 views

LIKE/FAV FOR SOLAR POWER! Win this at: http://facebook.com/scitues
    Detailed project instructions below:

We are going to modify a cheap cell phone to charge off of solar power. Here are the items you will need.

    1. Cheap Throwaway Mobile phone
    2. Basic small solar panel (available at electronics stores)
    3. Standard blocking diode (also get at the electronics store)

Attach the solar panel to the back of the phone with hot glue or epoxy. You can then burn a couple holes in the case with a soldering iron to run the wires through.

Next, burn some grooves into the plastic phone molding so that we can store the wires without them stopping the phone from closing.

    Now the fun part!

Solder the positive output of the solar panel to the diode, make sure you wire it to the back end of the diode, you can tell which side is which by looking at the diode itself. Diode's have a single white line on the end which designates the front, so just wire the solar panel to the side without the white line!

Next, wire the other side of the diode to the phone's positive battery prong (this should be marked on the phone itself). When that is done take the negative end of the solar panel and wire it to the negative battery prong on the phone.

Now pop in the battery and close up the phone! Your cheap emergency phone is now ready for action!

How to Build a Hanger Safe

    by HouseholdHacker 443,688 views

Thieves spend on average 8 minutes inside the home they're robbing. They want to get in, grab what they can, and get out fast. The longer they snoop around the house the better chance they will get caught.

They are looking for easy targets like a jewelry box, drawers, and other places they think the good stuff is. A very determined burglar can even remove a safe bolted to the floor! Why even mess with that?
We have found hiding your valuables in plain sight (so to speak) has been working against criminals for hundreds of years ! A diversion safe is the way to go. Valuables can be simply put inside these decoys and kept safely, even if your taking a trip.

One of my favorites is the Hanger Safe. Since it's used to hold up a jacket, shirt or sweater, you can place it right in your closet and it blends in perfectly with your wardrobe. Important note make sure you remember where you put it or you might even not find it.

    What you need

    1. Two cheap tubes and connector

    2. Caps for the end of the tubes

    3. Old hanger to get the hook off

    4. Something to put the hook on your hanger safe (hot glue etc)

    5. Optional of course..your secret valuables ( whatever they may be)

    Defying Gravity

    by HouseholdHacker 711,269 views

An awesome physics experiment. Copper and Aluminum are non-magnetic metals which is what makes this so cool!

    What you need for this:
    1. Aluminum foil buy at any store or already in your pantry, or if you so choose a copper pipe even an aluminum heavy rod

    2. A neodymium magnet (you can now get these much easier today and cheaper! Amazon or radio shack 5- 10 bucks!

Personal recommendation save your money and get the aluminum foil it works just as well as the more expensive copper pipe!

A simple demonstration on Lenz's Law which is (an electric current induced by a changing magnetic field will create its own magnetic field that opposes the original magnetic field) These opposing fields occupying the same space at the same time create two forces. The more current you generate, the greater the force.

An example of Lenz's law is take a copper pipe or even better and 30 times cheaper a simple box of aluminum foil (it's conductive but non-magnetic) and drop a piece of steel down the tube. The piece of steel will fall through quickly due to gravity and lack of induced current.

If you take the same copper pipe or aluminum foil tube and drop a Neodymium magnet
you will see with your own eyes the magnet falls very slowly almost defying gravity!. This is because the copper tube creates a magnetic field from the falling magnet. This magnetic field induces a current in the copper pipe or aluminum foil tube

The induced current in the copper pipe or aluminum foil tube creates its own magnetic field that fights the magnetic field that created it. So even though the tube is not magnetic in any way it will cause gravity to be resisted. Pretty amazing what science can do when you understand it!

    Flower Pot Fridge!

    by HouseholdHacker 506,663 views

The world's cheapest and easiest refrigerator to make, it uses minimal resources and runs completely without electricity. It's called a zeer pot, or the pot-in-pot and was rebirthed by Mohammed Bah Abba, who put the laws of thermodynamics to work for mankind.

The zeer pot, is just two simple pots, one pot smaller than the other.
The smaller pot is put inside the bigger pot, and we fill the space between with sand. We wet the sand twice a day and cover the top with a wet towell to keep warm air from entering the interior.

    Things You'll Need:
Two clay (terracotta) pots, one larger than the other
    Sand
    Water
    Cloth to cover the pots
Clay, cork or other material to plug holes in the pots

A jailbroken iPhone is required but similar spying applications also exist on android and various other smart phones where a jailbreak is not required.

    Spying with a Laser

    by HouseholdHacker 474,841 views

Want to spy on people with a laser? Dating back to the 1940s, this oldie but goody is super simple to pull off! We can easily send audio over a laser and into a basic light-sensitive receiver.

The method itself was developed by Léon Theremin in the 1940's and originally used a simple IR beam invisible to the naked eye. Of course, we have made this much simpler at a slight cost of audio quality.

The possibilities are endless for this simple device, you could bounce the laser off a window and hear what is going on inside, you can hook an mp3 player into the power circuit and stream your music out as well.

All the items shown here are easily obtained at an electronic's store such as Radio Shack or Frys and won't cost much more than a few bucks if you get a cheap laser.

Scientific Tuesdays - Superman Hand Cannon (Tennis Launcher)

    by HouseholdHacker 380,930 views

Taking the same basic idea behind a spud gun, we can make it smaller and more portable and launch tennis balls instead of vegetables.

    Check out JackThreads here: http://jackthreads.com/ST

    More information:
In order to pull this off you will need to find some strong tubing that will tightly hold a tennis ball. I used a defunct leaf blower tube.

Place your tube into a strong base and form a seal using duct tape. Make sure to wrap the tape around several times to create a very strong seal, we do not want air escaping.

The fuel we used was about a second worth of hair spray. Once the fuel is added you should shake the tube for 20 seconds and make sure everything inside is vaporized.

To ignite the fuel source you can take apart a BBQ lighter and remove the piezoelectric igniter inside. Take the two wires attached and place them into the tube, when the button is pushed the fuel will ignite.

Scientific Tuesdays - How to Make Breakaway Glass (Sugar Glass)

    by HouseholdHacker 892,228 views

Ever wondered how they have such cool effects in movies where glass is shattering? Well, typically these effects are based on household sugar. We make make our own crude homemade version with some common household ingredients.

For this demonstration you will need the following items:

    3 1/2 Cups of Sugar
    2 Cups of Water
    1 Cup of Corn Syrup
1/4 Tsp. of Cream of Tarter
    Candy Thermometer

If we boil the mixture up to about 300 degrees F, we can then pour it into a mold and create an awesome shattering effect just like the movies.

Scientific Tuesdays - Nitinol - Memory Wire Experiments

    by HouseholdHacker 618,911 views

Nitinol is mostly half nickel and half titanium. The best part is that you can do all sorts of nifty tricks with it once you know what you are working with.

By applying a heat source to metal wire we can make it spring back into place. We can even make our own shapes with it using the same method.

In order to set a shape to nitinol you need to torch it up to 600 degrees C, once this is done it will always jump back into place with the proper heat.
