Beauty Dare: AVEDA's Spring 2013 NYFW Look for Kimberly Ovitz

Ever wonder what goes into the complex hairstyles backstage at New York Fashion Week? We tapped Allen Ruiz, the Global Style Director from AVEDA to give us an insider's look. He's created the hairstyles for some of the industry's biggest designers like Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, and Christian Siriano and in this video, he demonstrates the look he created for Kimberly Ovitz's Spring 2013 show on Birchbox co-founder Katia. The sleek-meets-messy style isn't super wearable day to day, but we love the idea of a toned-down version for a night out on the town.
To get the style, Ruiz separated hair into three sections (top, left, and right), and using AVEDA control force firm hair spray, combed hair on the top and sides of the head into a slicked back style. Next, the two sides were braided into fishtails and woven together for the messy and intricate bottom section.
