In April of 2011, SETI announced that due to budgetary constraints their radio telescope array would be set into hibernation mode. This is video is unofficially produced on SETI's behalf by Reid Gower, with the aim of starting a grassroots movement to reinvigorate funding for the SETI program.

His media creation, called The Sagan Series, borrows the words of the late astrophysicist Carl Sagan and has gone on to inspire millions across the world. Reid is Canadian and lives on Vancouver Island. He is a graduate of the University of Victoria.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
