Data comes in many formats. For use in STATISTICA, these data may need imported and possibly prepared for analysis as well. STATISTICA imports data from a variety of sources including Microsoft Excel, text files and statistical software data files. Additionally, data can be queried from a database such as Access, Oracle, SQL and more. This video shows an example import of an Excel data set that then must be rearranged to follow the structural requirements of STATISTICA.
Part 2 of this video gives a step by step example using the query tool to bring in data from a database.

Managing your data is an important part of any analysis project. This can also be a big task, so this video session is presented in two parts. The first part discusses working with variables such as using spreadsheet formulas to create new variables as a function of existing data. Also included in this session are topics on reviewing the data for issues and dealing with those issues once detected. Examples of data issues are missing data, data entry errors, etc. These tasks are illustrated with examples in STATISTICA.

Continuing with the topic of data management, this video addresses topics of using portions of the data for analysis and graphing tasks. Case Selection conditions allow expressions to include and exclude portions of the data. The original file remains intact, but only the specified portion is used. The specified portion can be used to create a subset spreadsheet of the data as well. Brushing and case states allow for interactive exploration of the data. These tools are demonstrated with examples in STATISTICA.

Organizing output and supporting files for an analysis project is an important task. STATISTICA offers several output options as well as project files to handle the task. This video will discuss options for outputting tables and graphs in STATISITCA as well as inserting supporting files. These options include workbooks, individual windows, Reports, Microsoft Word and output to the web for WebSTATISTICA. Additionally, STATISTICA reports can be used for managing the analysis and output. Best practices are illustrated with examples in STATISTICA.

This episode of the Getting Started with STATISTICA series discusses how to navigate analysis and analysis dialogs in STATISTICA. Topics include options and features common to STATISTICA dialogs, how to find the proper analysis for your needs and creating results. The Statistical Advisor and Commonly Used Statistical tests pages of help are explored as a good way to determine the appropriateness of an analysis tool for your project.

Graphing of data can be helpful both in the initial exploration of data as well as giving visual support to your findings. Several options exist for creating graphs in STATISTICA and this video session explores those. Examples are used to show various graphs appropriate for visualizing continuous and categorical data including histograms, scatterplots, surface plots, means plots, matrix plots and bivariate histograms.

STATISTICA graphs offer extensive customization options for obtaining the visualization of the data you need. This video shows how to use customization options for STATISITCA graphs. Topics include setting the defaults for all STATISTICA graphs, using the graph customization dialogs to change aspects of the plot, graphing styles which are a set of customizations, modifying the data for the graph, user defined graphs and multi-graph layouts. This video aims to give you a basic understanding of the options you have working with graphs and to help you find the tools that work best for your needs.

Automation of analysis can be beneficial in many ways. One way is saving time when steps are repeated routinely. Another way is ensuring consistency or routine analysis. Macros are a good way for automating analysis in STATISTICA. This video focuses on the features and use of macros in STATISTICA. The functionality of STATISTICA is accessible through STATISTICA Visual Basic and COM-compliant programming languages. STATISTICA offers tools to record analyses and generate SVB code. Recorded macros can be used together with custom code to create advanced analyses. These concepts are explored with examples in STATISTICA.
