The geophysical sciences extend to urban areas, especially the change in land cover and associated microclimates that this can create, in particular the urban heat island. The theme is quite topical, touching on climate change, and urban themes are increasingly important.

Our video features one chapter of a series that we produced for middle to high school Greenlandic students. We are part of an IGERT program in polar environmental change and one of our missions is to connect with non-scientists and do science outreach. This video relates to the geophysical sciences specifically, because its goal is to teach students how to read signs of glacial retreat in the landscape.
