Why I Don't Argue and Neither Should You (Depending on Your Goals)
by lifeishowitis 989 views
Just a few reasons why if your goal is to get empathy or understanding for your person or your ideas, or if you are anywhere near the realm of wanting to convince people of them, then arguing is probably not for you.
Although in no way conclusive and many people are highly skeptical, this is a theory that makes a lot of sense to me. Argumentative Theory: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/15/arts/people-argue-just-to-win-scholars-assert.html?pagewanted=all
Also, I don't think it is the case that nobody can be convinced this way. One of the few people I convinced to be ancap and still is to this day I essentially bullied into it. Also, books constructed of facts I do not consider "arguing" because it is done with a persons' interests already accounted for.
Check out: Haidt - The Righteous Mind for more information on this subject; it was my strongest impetus to creating this video. Daniel Siegel was also a large influence. -
