As a thank you to all of the people who helped this get to the finals, I've uploaded the .DMX and other files of this video for educational/general-fucking-around purposes. https://www.dropbox.com/s/p2i25459lj4msyo/Sabotage.rar
Special thanks to Sebastian Wetzel and Vantts for helping me make the video.
And thanks to ĀBCD Beats for letting me use his music.
Made in primarily Source Filmmaker. I used After Effects for color correction and additional vfx and Premiere for additional editing/tweaking. Sebastian used After Effects for various effects and magic and Boujou to make the title shot.

---EDIT: Video too dark? I reuploaded a correctly encoded version in 1080p here:
Hope that's not against the Saxxy contest rules. If it is, please inform me to take one of those two videos down. Sorry for the screw up.---
This is my last minute entry into the saxxy contest. Seriously, I have only 5 minutes left on the timer and I'm not even sure it will get in. Anyway it is a sorta prequel/spin off of a video I did few months ago called Teamformers. Hope you guys like it, even if the ending might seem kinda odd. Or maybe you will like it. Or maybe hate it. Oh well.
I just want to point out that all the custom models (including that ending "surprise") I made myself. Everything else is from the basic instalation of SFM + one song from portal 2.

Hey guys. Just found out that this hit 2mil. Thanks for all the comments and support. I'm working away on my next big thing when i can. It's going well and is currently set to release closer to the end of the year. I will be releasing a trailer and community challenge soon to get yourself involved with it. Hold tight. X may not deliver, but James will. I'll post more regular updates in my steam group from now on. You can find it further down the description.
Please comment and like the video here. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=853617
Thanks to all who supported this through the saxxys. As many of you know this video was made long before the saxxys were announced and was never really intended to be part of it. I make videos as I enjoy the process and evoking emotion. Some people consider mo cap as cheating. I see it as an easier means to acheive my goals. How you go about making the piece doesn't matter. It's the end product which does. I'm grateful for even getting nominated for the saxxys. All the winners are well deserved. Entering this was a last minute choice due to the large amount of people encouraging me to do so.

As many of you may know I've been pretty busy as of late. But after getting an infected foot I had a bit of free time. I had a plan to do this video since TF2 first came out but I wanted to wait for Source Filmmaker to go official. 130 hours in SFM and Hammer later, here it is. As my foot healed I was getting less and less time to work on it. So I got it to a point where I was happy and just shut it down. It has it's flaws but it was a case of release now or never.
The animation work i did is pretty janky, i'm still learning a lot of this.
Most of it is kinect mo cap of myself and Zach. I barely touched it afterwards for clean up, mostly only the head and hands.
I figured i'd try these as some goals of stuff to release:
75,000 views = Making of video showing mo cap data and custom maps/perspective tricks.
150,000 views = A load of still 1080p wallpaper renders.
Find them here: http://www.monkeyjunkie.co.uk/PracticalProblems/
750,000 views = I'll make the destroyed 2fort set public. (Bare in mind that outside of the viewable area on the video its just regular 2fort and isnt really playable)
Find it here: http://www.monkeyjunkie.co.uk/PracticalProblems/
2,000,000 views = New vid. Decided to start this one already. Not a direct successor as much as a spiritual one. But on a much larger scale.
I Still play TF2 quite a bit, always a demoman.

So I decided to give lip syncing a try, seeing that I haven't bothered with it yet. The final render seems a tad out of sync, which wasn't apparent when I was within SFM. Not sure what happened.
I decided to use the famous phone call monologue from taken, enjoy.

Thank you for Everyone who Voted for this and helped it to succeed. I believe the bulk of the credit for this video should go to Lars for his amazing music composing. His songs are always such that I dont even need to think, the video just flows from the music. Thanks to sarcasmosaur for the awesome vested medic, and a secret thanks to Norpoify, who posted up the DMX for his short "Patient" which served as the original file basis for this video ( though extremely modified and torn apart). I'd also like to take a second to tip my hat to Soimon , with his entry "story of a sentry". I believe that a video only needs to do one thing well to succeed, and in my opinion, his amazing characterization of the sentry outshines any single element in my video. Give him some love and respect, that guy has fantastic instincts and I think he deserved to win too. you can check out his entry here.

DRAMA entry for Saxxies 2012.
This piece took me 4-5 days to put together. the map is Black_void, one of the stock sfm maps. If you are interested in an alternate version of this movie, I have an earlier somewhat different version here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScEKQvwyQHc
One of the top complaints I've gotten about the piece, is the little bit of violence at the end being too cartoony, which I agree with, but the way it is now just has a special place in my heart, and I couldnt bear to change it.
here's the DMX and all the required files, if anyone wants to toy around or disect the project. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/72478892/New%20folder/bad_medicine_

A little something I made using Source Filmmaker, a free tool that lets you make movies using Valve's Team Fortress 2 characters. This was my first SFM video and I was mainly experimenting with hand gestures and body movements.
Thanks to Monty Python for the Lumberjack song!

The song on the original was copyrighted and wouldnt be allowed. I was looking into getting permission but it wasnt getting very far. Luckily Lars stepped in and rushed out a song for me in the last few hours. I caught lars unexpectedly with this so it's not his best work. I'm well aware the video has a different feel now which wasn't the initial intent. If you like the original. Just pretend it's that.

Well this video didn't win best action, but got pretty damn close, and I have those of you who voted and shared it around to thank for that. I love all of you who support me.) I am happy to say that I'm finished with this. After months of hard work, it's finally done.
I am aware it is a tad dark. It seems my videos can never be on the quality of everyone else's. All I can say is that I hope no one dismisses my hard work because of a simple render issue.
Also, where the RED Scout is introduced, that's not bad lighting on my part; the lighting in that part of Badwater is totally wonky. When I tried to fix it, it just made it more obvious. So don't whine about it like the bad lighting was my fault.
You're free to make your own assumptions about the video, but this video was not meant to make any statement about hats or free2plays or anything like that. I mean, you don't go on the Meet the Team videos and go "fake, he's f2p, no hats lol"...at least I surely hope you don't.
Also, this is not meant to give F2P's a good name. Stop bragging in the comments that you're F2P and "still kick evry1ns azz lol". In fact, I dislike a lot of F2P's (not all, just the ones who are commenting that.) It's like you're bragging about not supporting Valve for the game you apparently are so good at. Don't come in here with that shit, it's disrespectful and I won't have it.
Just to be clear, I'm not hating F2P's who legitimately can't pay for it and/or don't brag about their "epik skilz".
If you met me in a TF2 match, feel free to leave a shout out; or if you see me in game, say hi. I love meeting people who appreciate my work in game.

90 hours of hard work. It's not perfect by any means. In my eyes I still would like to improve a lot of things, but the project piled up to be such of a clusterfuck that changing something will result screwing up something else. After all this is my first project, and all mistakes I did in this one - I'll never repeat in the future ones. What I also probably will never do is SFM movies that are so long. If I ever do something like this in future it will probably be a lot shorter.
As for the story you have probably guessed - it's inspired by Tarantino. But what it doesn't make 100% Tarantino style is a lot of blood and cool 70-s soundtrack. I was desperate to add blood pools and splatter, even had an idea on how to add them to SFM, so I asked around on forums but nobody helped me out. So I left it without blood, which makes me pretty sad. As for the music - I didn't want to break any copyright rules so I decided to keep stock Valve music.
Originally it was supposed to be more silent, serious and almost without any dialogue, but it was too boring, so I decided to add a few engineer lines in the beggining. Sure it sounds goofy, but it creates some decent build up.
In case anyone wonders - this is my first attempt at animating.
Also - fun fact, I had this idea of a movie since 2009, when I created this Garry's Mod picture. http://sexykot69.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d29i70v
But only now, when SFM is released, I managed to make it real. :)
Thanks for watching, I really hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
P.S. Walking animation - bane of my animating existence.

This was an idea --stolen-- inspired by Criken (http://www.youtube.com/user/Criken2 really, go subscribe) in one of his livestreams he mentioned how scary Sentry Busters are, and I thought that I might as well --take-- make his idea a reality and create this spiffy little video.
Hope you enjoy, if you did....like and...sub...su...I can't, I can't ask that of you. That would be stupid.
In all honesty, please share it, tell your friends, it helps out a lot and I'll appreciate it.
To those of you who were wondering why that Heavy is BLU and not RED, it's a...homage if you will...to the fact that BLU and RED were originally supposed to play together in Mann vs. Machine. This idea was later scrapped near release because playtesters were so damn stupid they were shooting their opposite colored teammates (so I've heard, not sure if true)

Meet the Heavy. He's dead.
To answer a few questions:
• The video took twelve hours or so to complete. It started off as a depth of field test.
• I did plan to include details that some of you kindly suggested (entry wound, friendly-cloaked spy) but I had some trouble implementing these elements and ended up leaving them out. I'm still very much a beginner at this.
• Some of you have expressed a desire to see similar videos featuring other classes and—while I can't make any promises—the positive (and wholly unexpected) response this video has received is certainly an incentive to produce more.
Thank you for watching and for your kind feedback.

He learned to walk! Ain't that a cute lil' gun.
The feet are a bit wobbly, but I'm proud of the overall result. This took me about twelve hours to do, including the sound effects. Most of that time was spent fiddling around with the graph editor and getting frustrated.
To get a sentry model with all the bones, use the _heavy ones. If using a level one sentry, change the body to 3 so that the toolbox disappears.

What's not to love about Batman and Team Fortress 2?
I decided to try my hands at a more serious scene with a focus on animation and lighting. This took the better part of a week to complete from start to finish. And yes, everything was animated within the Source Filmmaker.
Hope you enjoy!

The Scout, looking for some first aid.
I've gotten some music together for the next videos, this one is very quiet in places. Also hoping to make future ones a little longer if possible.
There was a lot of trouble getting the music to play so I had to add it in with video editing software, but other than that I learnt a great deal about rigs - so I should be able to do some nice walking animations among other things.
The next 'Meet the TF2 Commentary' is almost done, but I'm not happy with my noobish animations in places so I will likely re-do quite a bit. I've also had quite a good idea for a new series which is unlike anything else I've seen for SFM, but I need to develop it a bit more so that I don't waste it.

My first real project using the Source Filmmaker. The concept behind this video was to show the gruesome slow motion details happening in Team Fortress 2 while telling a very small tale of the losing red team.
Every kind of editing was done within the Source Engine, no external programs was used to edit this, showcasing the strength of the Source Filmmaker.

Alrighty then! This is the first time I've used the Source Filmmaker (and my first time animating in 3D for that matter) so I'm rather jank at this sort of thing, but hopefully that won't stop you from enjoying the awkward, stiff, and horribly inorganic animation extravaganza above. The video is of course based on everyone's favourite philosophical science fiction film, Ghost in the Shell.

...or, to save on postage, I'll just poison him with THIS!
Okay, so it doesn't make much sense that he takes out a can of Bonk at the end instead of Jarate, I didn't see that until I was pretty much done, and was too stupid to figure out how to make the Jarate copy the motion.
I'm happier with this animation, though I still think I need to work on making my motions less jumpy. I think I rely too much on bends in the knees from pose to pose, and they're much too pronounced. It doesn't help that I come into a lot of the errors only AFTER I render the video, which again, takes a while on my machine. Next video I'm gonna work on some more slow, subtle motions. Also, I have to thank Steam User General for rendering and editing the video for me. He'll probably be doing all of the rendering for future videos. His Steam ID:

For those confused by the title:
"The roaming soldier functions as his team's offensive muscle class and acts as a backup pocket if the normal pocket dies. The roaming Soldier also functions as a suicide bomber, where the Soldier rocket jumps to the more important players of the team (Medic/Demoman) and tries to kill them early in a fight, or, in the Medic's case, tries to make them use their Ubercharge when they did not intend to. This job is usually relegated to a Soldier because of his ability to reposition himself with rocketjumps and take on the role of backup pocket. Some strategies might call for the roaming player to go for a specific strategic attack involving a class other than Soldier, like running a Pyro on Badlands."

Finally it's done.
Took 15+ hours to animate and lip sync, 4-5 hours to render (but I was asleep at that time) and 30 minutes to final render and upload.
I didn't ask for all this attention, (or maybe I did) frankly it's kind of scary, but at least most people are enjoying it so that's cool.
I know the animation isn't top notch, I'm quite new to animation I can assure you, you can probably tell. But that's why I do videos, to try to improve and get better.
Some people are treating this thing to be the best thing to come outta TF2 or SFM or whatever, I dunno if I agree with that. I think it's nice, myself, but there are things, looking at it now, that I can improve on and change to make it better.
Also no it's not me singing, not my voice, it's Ken Ashcorp.
Here's lyrics, again, all music credits go to Ken Ashcorp.
He is the one singing, not me.
Look at this server, isn't it neat?
People with all their collections complete
Wouldn't you think I'm a guy
A guy who has everything
Look at my pack - five sandmans bold
How many wonders can one backpack hold
Looking at this you'd think, sure
He's got everything
I've got Targes and Pain-Trains a-plenty
I've got Kritzkriegs and Banners galore
You want, Bonk drinks? I've got twenty
But who cares? No big deal, I want more
I wanna be where Gabe Newell is
I wanna see him, see him dancing
Strutting his stuff in that
What do you call it?
Idle servers don't get you too far
Chances required for every second
Strolling around in that Killer's Kabuto
Up on their heads
Up where their hair
Up where that mullet feels lighter than air
And oh, how I long
For one more hat
What would I give, If I could live
With a Tough Guy's Toque
What would I pay
To spend a day with that
And oh how I'd love
To speak up above with Robin and
Increase those drop-rates
I'd pay cash
If only I could
And ready to know what the Devs know
Ask them some questions and get some answers
What is a trollsman and why does it
What's the word?
I'm ready to roll
Why don't you drop
A towering pile of hats up to the top?
The top of my head
I'll wait 'till I'm dead
For one more... hat

This is the final, (somewhat) finished version of the Pulp Fiction scene I displayed a little while ago. Try to ignore the obvious clipping on some things (Scout's bag, demo's chin, etc.), and the bloom at the start which I could do nothing about really bar turning it off.
I didn't really change much in the starting scene apart from more emotion in the demo's face, but you can probably see I got better at some things later on in the clip. It's taken me long enough to go through the film step by step to replicate the little details, and when I was finished I didn't feel like going back and fixing up the start, so sorry for that.
The map was made in Hammer, Valve's level editor, so the scene is somewhat similar to that of the film, although not exactly because of differing proportions and I was going entirely off of visuals. I couldn't find a decent door model that would open in one of the ending scenes, which is why the medic seems to appear from nowhere.
This final version took about 3 hours to render (because it only seemed to want to compile off of a single core), and approximately a week (working week, 5 days) to make.

A silly adventure begins for the Heavy when he finds a lost wand.
Made in just 3 days right before the deadline — phew! I had too much work to start before that. I'm kind of satisfied with how it turned out; didn't get to use most of the ideas for it though. Oh well.
It's probably better if you're familiar with TF2 comics so you can understand what's going on.
Original soundtrack by Deniz "Intero" Akbulut. Listen to it here:
The Heavy is all stock voice lines. The other characters were voiced by friends: Raikujo as the Scout, and Druox as the Soldier/Medic.

Decided to follow Valve's tutorial and make this with a few adjustments here and there. I made this using Source Filmmaker and it took around 10+ hours to finish since I was learning as I was going along.

This is my first Source Filmmaker short, hope you like it!
By the way, I have sent the DMX project file to the "No Heroes" TF2 community (http://www.youtube.com/user/noheroesgaming) for use in their Holiday event. That's just so you guys know they didn't steal it or anything!

So I've been super busy as usual. In the brief few moments I've had at home I wanted to try 3 different little experiments within SFM and After Effects. They were not big enough to warrant their own videos so I threw this together as a little test project. The 3rd test ended up being way too complex for the time I had to spend on it so it just reverted it too the freeze frame spin arounds at the end.
I have a very big story based video I'm slowly starting work on. Would be a spiritual successor to Practical Problems some what. Expect that in a few months. You can keep up to date with it by joining my steam group where i will post updates.
Big thanks to JP Neufeld http://www.youtube.com/user/rigaudio For the SFX audio mix.
The song is "I know the truth" by Pretty Lights
I'm amazed at how many people don't understand different genres of electronic music. Just because it has bass it doesn't make it dubstep haha.

(full version is longer, I cut it down because it was to long for me to animate over the weekend.)
Music: Butternut Squash Jam, Terry Devine-King / Steve Levine.
My first shot at source film maker, took roughly 24 hours to complete, over about 3 days.
still a work in progress as there are still a few things i'm not happy with and/ or need to do:
- refine right arm movements
- refine left arm, mostly elbow and hand movements
- smooth out and add more neck movement and chest movement, and calm him down near the end there.
- more detailed finger movement
- more finger movement
- try to fix some lighting issues with his left arm
- refine camera movement
- fix lip-sync, less sudden and more smooth transitions, and improve synchronisation.
- refine and add more facial emotion
- adjust motion blur to a degree which suits the fast lip movements
- better shoulder movements
Oh and of course the poor soul on the other end.
But i think it looks quite nice at this point so i thought i'd upload it.
(project is currently shelved indefinitely)

Got into the beta yesterday, already 16 hours spent in it, heh. I love you Valve, you create the greatest games, ideas and software. This is my first real video after a few tests and messing around with the program. All animation done inside SFM, it's surprisingly easy to animate in SFM actually.

The Engineer and Pyro learn the value of teamwork.
Inspired by the song "Jet World" by Mutsuhiko Izumi.
Apologies to those who may experience motion sickness due to the roller coaster camera.

Update: Yay! I made it to the SFM Community Spotlight!
Yes, the Demopan is wearing the wrong hat. That's my fault for not fact-checking with the wiki. http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Demopan
Regarding the Gunslinger (which seems to be a point of confusion/contention for some viewers): Glove comes off Engie's hand, appears on Pyro's head. You can't explain that!
