Liam Jaussi's story -- OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital

Liam Jaussi is a typical kid. He loves computer games, building Legos, climbing trees, fishing, and playing outside. In June, 2010, however, a CT scan revealed a large tumor in his brain. He was immediately taken to OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital where surgeons performed two surgeries, totaling 17 hours, to remove the tumor. The skill and care of the doctors and nurses at Doernbecher was immediately evident as Liam announced upon returning home, "I don't have headaches anymore." Within weeks he was back to full strength, riding his bike.
In 2011, Liam gave everything in his piggy bank - $6 - to support his hospital. "Liam's $6 Club" was born. -

It began as a simple coin drive in one area elementary school. Today, 20 years later, hundreds of area K-12 students at schools throughout Oregon and southwest Washington have helped the Kids Making Miracles (KMM) program raise more than $7 million for OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. In the process they have learned valuable lessons about the value of philanthropy.
Every year, KMM engages kids in community fundraising programs across the region. Through everything from bake sales to pageants, KMM kids are raising serious money for the hospital. What's more, they are developing their own organizational and communication skills while gaining early exposure to the power of philanthropy to help others in need. -
