Washington, DC LISC is proud to be a supporter of DC's Promise Neighborhood. With the Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy as its applicant agency, the DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative was awarded $500,000 to plan a Promise Neighborhood in the Parkside-Kenilworth community in Ward 7. This video was produced this summer to showcase the amazing work already being done in Parkside-Kenilworth neighborhood.

Washington, DC LISC provides technical assistance and finances supportive housing development for homeless and special needs residents. We work in conjunction with local groups and DC government to alleviate homelessness. In the past several years, we have supported the creation of 228 apartments of supportive housing, including the Dunbar Apartments in 2009 for chronically homeless women.

On March 5, 2011, LISC sponsored a Community Summit open to all residents of Southwest Washington DC. The town hall style summit, moderated by America Speaks, gave residents the opportunity to voice concerns and help guide LISC partner the Community Benefits Coordinating Council as it moves forward.

In 2010, the DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative (DCPNI) was awarded a planning grant from the US Department of Education to improve the educational and developmental outcomes of children in the Parkside-Kenilworth neighborhood of Washington, DC. DC LISC has continued to partner with DCPNI through the planning year and submission of a Promise Neighborhood Implementation Grant. This video documents the work of DCPNI.
