Insight: Is Michele Bachmann the Tea Party Candidate in 2012?

    by FoxNewsInsider 1,461 views

Before she even officially announced her candidacy in the 2012 election, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann polled in a statistical dead heat with Mitt Romney. What does the Tea Party have to do with Bachmann's rise and is she the movement's candidate in 2012?

Matt Kibbe, President and CEO of FreedomWorks, Mark Meckler, Co-Founder of Tea Party Patriots, and Jamie Radtke, Chairwoman Emeritus of the Federation of Virginia Tea Party Patriots all joined Happening Now with Tea Party insight. All three agree that they don't think there is a Tea Party candidate yet..

Kibbe says, "We're trying to measure all of the potential nominees based on the same standard from the Contract From America. Do they line up with Tea Party values? And, importantly, can they put together the practical mechanics of a winning campaign? I think that's a test for a lot of the candidates that we know share our values. But it's not just a test enough to share our values, we have to win too." Meckler agrees that there's no Tea Party candidate, saying, "What we're looking for is, we're looking for the Tea Party movement itself to analyze the candidates, to make a mature analysis of their positions, their histories, the things that they're saying right now on the campaigns. They'll make the decision when the time comes."

In reference to Michele Bachmann, Radtke says the Tea Party appreciates her "fearlessness and the fact that she hasn't been beholden to any special interest groups."

VIDEO: Michele Bachmann Announces 2012 Presidential Bid

    by FoxNewsInsider 5,539 views

Moments ago, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann announced her presidential candidacy from Waterloo, Iowa. Bachmann says, "Don't mistake my happy memories of growing up here in Waterloo, Iowa as pining for the past. I recognize, it's impossible to turn the clock back and to go back to a different day. Instead, I want this moment to serve as a reminder of the best of who we are as a nation and of what our values are, and what it is to make America great. To recapture its best for the promise of the future. I want my candidacy for the presidency of the United States to stand for a moment when we the people stand once again for the independence from a government that has gotten too big and spends too much and has taken away too much of our liberties."

    One-on-One With Michele Bachmann

    by FoxNewsInsider 2,990 views

Ahead of the official start of her presidential campaign Monday, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann spoke to Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. A new poll from Iowa's Des Moines Register, showed that Bachmann's now a frontrunner in the race. The survey showed that she is second to Mitt Romney amongst likely Republican caucus-goers. Of the results, Bachmann says, "Since the debate, people have paid attention and they've recognized that I am very serious about what I want to do because the country's on the wrong track. And, my goal is to turn the economy around and have jobs created."

Chris Wallace asked Bachmann about a story in the Los Angeles Times that claims Bachmann has gone after federal and state money for personal and professional reasons in the past. The article claims that a counseling clinic run by Bachmann's husband got almost $30,000 in state federal funds. A farm, in which Bachmann is a partner, got almost $260,000 in federal subsidies. And over the years, she sought more than $60 million in state earmarks and more than $3.7 million in federal earmarks.
Bachmann responded saying, "Well, let's go through them. First of all, the money that went to the clinic was actually training money for employees. The clinic did not get the money. And my husband and I did not get the money either. That's mental health training money that went to employees. Number two, regarding the farm, the farm is my father-in-law's farm. It's not my husband's and my farm. It's my father-in-law's farm. And my husband and I have never gotten a penny of money from the farm. Regarding the earmarks, I believe the right place to build projects is in the states and the states have to build roads and bridges. And I don't apologize for building roads and bridges."

Bachmann discussed the need to repeal Obamacare, saying, "What I want to do is to make sure that we fully repeal Obamacare. This will be one of the largest spending initiatives we will ever see in our country. And also, it will take away choice from the American people. It will hurt senior citizens, because Obama took away $500 billion, as you say, from Medicare and will transfer it younger people in Obamacare. Even worse, the Congressional Budget Office is saying ill lose 800,000 jobs with Obamacare. When we're in a situation now where we have massive job loss, this is not what we want to do with Obamacare."

Gingrich on Campaign Chaos, Maintains 'Real Solutions' Strategy

    by FoxNewsInsider 531 views

Former House Speaker and 2012 hopeful Newt Gingrich spoke to Bill in the wake of losing approximately 18 members of his presidential campaign team. Gingrich called this an unusual circumstance, but cited past presidential campaigns, such as those of former President Ronald Reagan and Sen. John McCain, whose mission did not fold with the resignation of campaign members. Newt also weighed in on the GOP debate earlier this month, responding to O'Reilly's criticism that none of the candidates distinguished themselves from one another, to which Gingrich said he intends to lead a "content-led candidacy" where people can find real solutions.

    by FoxNewsInsider 659 views

Charles Krauthammer weighed in on whether that could hurt their campaigns, saying "To me what is important is not signing a pledge, it's having a position that is consistent and convincing."

INTERVIEW - Jon Huntsman: I'm Running for President Because I Love My Country

    by FoxNewsInsider 2,165 views

Jon Huntsman sat down with Sean Hannity after announcing his bid for the White House Tuesday at Liberty State Park in NJ, the same place where Reagan launched his campaign in 1980. In choosing the location, Huntsman said, "This is a pretty historic place and we remember 1980, at the beginning of the fall general election campaign, the president came here. It was a time of difficulty and trouble in our nation and he basically promised people that we could restore greatness again. And, he did. So today, I totally stand in his shadow."

When asked why he decided to run, Huntsman said, "Because I love my country. And, I can't stomach the thought that we are passing down to the next generation a country that is less viable, less good, less competitive, less compassionate than the one we got."

Hannity Sneak Peek: Does Jon Huntsman Still Consider President Obama a Remarkable Leader?

    by FoxNewsInsider 3,706 views

This morning, Jon Huntsman announced his bid for the White House in 2012. Following the announcement, he sat down with Sean Hannity to layout his strategy for winning the election.

In this sneak peek of the interview, Hannity asks Huntsman about his previous claim that President Obama was a "remarkable leader" and whether he still feels that way. Huntsman says, "No. I think he had failed in a number of ways, both in terms of economic governance and stewardship and also internationally. I wrote that after I was appointed. I thought he was a remarkable leader for appointing a Republican to a position as important and sensitive as the U.S. ambassadorship to China. And listen, during a time of war and economic hardship, I'm the kind of person that's going to stand up and serve my country."

For the full interview, tune in to Hannity tonight at 9p/12a ET.
