Transcript:
MACK: Hows it going, I am Macklemore.
RYAN: I am Ryan Lewis.
MACK: What will you do for earth? I grew up on Capitol Hill in Seattle, and it's amazing to actually compare Seattle with the rest of country and the rest of the world in terms of nature and beauty where you have mountains in the distance. You have water right there. You have trees. You have this vibrant green. You have kind of the best of all worlds on a sunny day.
RYAN: You know, coming out of the Northwest and that environment to shoot Hip Hop videos it's a little atypical of a place to be, you know, do you go out into different environments in terms of writing or being creative I think that we've had the opportunity to go up into, you know, the Cascades, go to Levinworth, Washington, like Washington where we're from has so much to offer in terms of just intense, epic surroundings.
MACK: You know, I grew up in the 80s, so it was really before this age of technology that gave you purpose and reason to stay inside all the time. Like we kicked it. We played games. We did sports. Everything was done outside, so there was an appreciation for nature just kind of why would you want to stay indoors. You know, like one kid in like a four block radius had a Nintendo. There was no Internet. There was no computers. There was like cops and robbers, capture the flag. Let's use our imagination and kick it outside, and I think that that's something that's unfortunately kind of lost in this generation of we have so many distraction on an immediate level indoors. A big part of my upbringing in terms of making Hip Hop music was at parks because we were too young to kick it at our parent's house, you know, it'd be Friday night, and that's where you'd end up was a Seattle park, and that's where I really started rapping was, you know, freestyling was in Seattle parks, so I have a long lineage of kind of finding out who I am really via the outdoors. -

Tinariwen Supports The Nature Conservancy
We are Tinariwen, and we are ready, and also very proud and conscious to participate in the protection of the environment.
There are two albums that have been recorded in the desert before this one, but creating a studio in the middle of the desert, it's very complicated for the sound engineers, for the electricity, for certain things. It's not easy. But for us every time we have the means to record in the desert that's always what we want to do.
We tried to play music like people before us without stress, without the bad air of the studio.
From time to time when you are attached and you bond with nature and the environment it gives you a lot of strength, and the strength that it gives you always gives you faith. You think about life and you believe in it.
In my family I am the first to have gone to the city. When someone is born or grows up in nature he always has a story with nature. Even if there were a catastrophe in the world you'd find yourself back in nature and see there is no problem.
We live in the environment because we have nothing but the environment. All of our life comes from the environment, from nature. -
