Today June 13, 2009 is Tigey Honey's RezDay in Secondlife. Happy RezDay Tigey! We dance to "Cubadance Live" by Sandalov's Balalaika.

Sandalov's Balalaika is Andrey Sandalov on Balalaika and Dmitry Smirnov on Guitar. Based in Russia, they're joined on this live recording on tour in Germany in approximately 2002 by Edvard Kuramshin on accordian.

It was such a delightful celebration, I pair my dear friends dancing on this gorgeous cake that Demi created in Secondlife on this joyous occasion with this energetic live performance from 3 brilliant musicians who deserve much more exposure than they've received so far!

Due to many people asking, I finally took a pause in dancing to create a video tutorial of how I dance in secondlife.com.

Feel free to use the pause button and take notes, my program isn't the greatest for text titles.

One thing I forgot to mention in the tutorial would be it is *massively important* that before you perform any dancing IN secondlife, you warm up any dances or poses you will be using. If you dont... when you click to dance, your avi just stands there looking cute for a few seconds until the dance is in your cache and you miss the music phrase you were aiming to interpret! (big oops! winks)

It was a large investment for me to start making one dance sphere which contains every dance I own, and takes me at least an hour to warm them all up, but it's been very worth the time, money and effort. Someday, I'll actually get all the rest of them in there, but what I do have is mighty helpful.

Also, it should be said here why I make videos in the first place rather than much live dancing in Secondlife other than for fun at clubs. I discovered in the very beginning that people do NOT see the same performance I create. The best example I can cite would be one of my earliest videos to "The Stripper". This is the only dance of mine that is almost fully choreographed. (the rest are spontaneous expressions to suit the musical phrase or mood I'm interpreting).

While developing this particular dance to The Stripper, I had a friend on the phone who was watching me in secondlife do the dance. He wasn't seeing the movements to the particular music phrases as I did them. I looked on my partner's machine, and they weren't the same there either. Turns out that everyone's machine caches both the music AND the animations at different rates due to a variety of factors. (connection, processor speed, lag etc etc)

And so, in answer to this problem, I learned to make machinima so that everyone sees that hip hit and kick on that particular bomp de bomp! (not 30 seconds later). I'm still learning and I'm no Steven Spielberg here!

As to my favorite of all the videos I've made? Um... all of them, depending on my mood? Okay, well for the overall of how it turned out, I think 25 or 6 to 4 is one of my latest favorites.

Okay, here's the song I was scouting film location for when serendipity happened, and I wound up switching to Octopus's Garden and filming that.

One must grab opportunity when it knocks. In secondlife, I've learned when I find these lovely locations, to strike fast while the iron is hot... lest they wind up with big FOR SALE signs on them if I procrastinate. (Although, both this location and the one for octopus's garden seem to be very permanent and both gorgeous builds worth a visit!)

My gratitude to DJ Yngwie Krogstad for turning me on to The Lift (congrats on your new Fri 9pm gig there... you rock!), and to Betsy and Alvargi for great times in a great place! Okay, I explored and you were right, it's wonderful here!

I had a blast skiing, trying to snowboard and riding in the bouncing ball down the hill. I've never been on snow skis, and though technically this isn't Real Life skiing, it's exciting and seems similar enough.

Dedicated to the memory of my friend Sarah, who loved the snow and would have had a blast with this!

I see in how this particular video turned out, that I'm really feeling the connection between my long past real life dancing, and what my character is starting to achieve as she collects and learns along the way.

Dance to me is not just looking pretty, or moving sexy. Both are fun, but my aim when I dance has always been somehow to convey what the lyrics are saying in the song.. provided there are lyrics IN the song in the first place. When lyrics are absent, I've always been able to find the vein of emotion of a piece, and strived to interpret along the same lines.

I draw the line at genuine acting, but in this dance, I've not just created 2 new moves, but achieved the goal I'd set. One of the new moves I used to love dancing to excess, the other is one I've only DREAMED of blossoming across a stage, and at long last.. I can, thank you to secondlife and Linden Labs. (you'll know it when my feet leave the floor, and through to the unique landing).

I saw this move in my dreams so many years ago, and wished very hard that I could do it, (believe me, I tried for many years on floors from wood to concrete), but alas, I wasn't born with wings.

Amongst the moves of this dance, I've also emphasized some symbolic gestures. It begins with flicking eyes as the music starts, some well placed arm and leg movements that definitely portray the lyrical message, and in one particular spot when talking about how smart the object of the lyrics thinks he is, I actually utilize a little symbolism of my own showing my disdain for such vanity. I've even put a few comical moves in and an actual kata fight sequence with a unique twist of my own in the middle of it.

I was on location preparing to film a completely different song, scouting the sweet spot, camera angles etc, when I decided to have fun on the mountain. I got some skis, a snowboard, and played around with those, then rolled down the mountain in a big transparent globe. I had so much fun skiing vicariously, (since I never have), I decided to explore another area I'd seen at the top of the mountain accessible by teleport. While there, I discovered this lovely pool. What I found was so breathtakingly gorgeous, I decided on the spur of the moment to change plans and present yet a different song, in a different atmosphere entirely. Enjoy the show!
