more
It's only an 8-second snippet, but it perfectly shows what Dwyane Wade meant to the Miami Heat on Monday night.
Fourth quarter, 4:10 remaining, Heat down by two. Wade leaps over two players to snare a defensive rebound with his outstretched right hand. He turns around, dribbles upcourt, splits two defenders near the top of the key and drives the lane for a thundering dunk over Charlotte's Emeka Okafor."It was just winning time," Wade said after the Heat's 100-96 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.
Yep, he was just about unstoppable again.
Wade scored 41 points, 10 in the final 8½ minutes to lead the Heat back from a seven-point deficit for their fourth straight win -- extending Miami's longest streak since the 2006-07 season.
"He took over the game," Charlotte's Jason Richardson said.
He's been doing that with regularity so far this season.
Adding to his NBA-best scoring average, Wade was 12-for-22 from the floor, 15-for-19 from the line, and added eight rebounds for good measure as the now-requisite cries of "M-V-P" serenaded him from the stands. He even found Shawn Marion for the basket with 1:01 left that put Miami ahead to stay and gave the Heat just their second win in the last eight meetings with Charlotte.
"This team never goes away, kind of like us," Wade said. "They're young, youthful and athletic. We knew it was going to be a battle. We just had to stop them on the defensive end."
Mario Chalmers scored 15 points and Marion finished with 13 for Miami.
Richardson scored 24 for Charlotte, but missed two free throws that would have tied the game with 32.3 seconds remaining. Okafor added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Bobcats, who were without their second-leading-scorer Gerald Wallace, who was in Alabama to mourn the death of his grandmother.
"Anything could have happened had I made those free throws," Richardson said.
Without Wallace, the Charlotte bench did its part to pick up the slack.
D.J. Augustin scored 14 points and Adam Morrison added 13, including a long 3-pointer from the left wing with 6.7 seconds left that drew the Bobcats to 98-96.
But Wade sealed his night -- and the win -- with two free throws a half-second later.
"What I was really encouraged by was the end of the game," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We did a lot of things technically not right ... but at the very, very end, I felt we won that game defensively."
Charlotte missed six straight shots in the latter stages, including one trip where Yakhouba Diawara simply smothered Richardson and forced him into a bad miss as the shot clock expired.
"We played well enough to win," Charlotte coach Larry Brown said. "We missed a layup, some free throws, tough things happened. But Wade was great. He's playing at such a high level."
It was Wade's seventh game of at least 35 points already this season -- most in the league.
He also got the benefit of a late whistle, raising Charlotte's ire: Jared Dudley was called for a block with 1:30 remaining against Wade, who made both free throws to put Miami up 90-88.
Augustin hit a 3-pointer with 1:11 to play that gave Charlotte a 91-90 lead, but Wade coolly brought the ball down on the ensuing possession, looked over a soft double-team to find an open Marion, and the Heat never trailed again.
"Hey, I was just cutting and he found me," Marion said. "I'm really good at moving without the ball, it was just a breakdown in their defense and we got a bucket out of it."
Charlotte had just three turnovers -- which Miami turned into exactly zero points -- in the first half, a major reason why, even though Wade had piled up 22 points at the midway point, the Heat went into the locker room leading only 51-48.
Wade got his scoring total up to 31 after the third quarter. Problem was, his teammates only contributed six points in the period, combining to shoot 3-for-11, and the Bobcats led 68-66 entering the fourth.
They extended the margin to seven, but left Wade just enough time to take over.
"He's a superstar," Augustin said.
Game notes Rappers Lil' Wayne and Bow Wow sat courtside, and University of Miami standout Jack McClinton -- a good friend of injured Heat forward Dorell Wright -- also was in attendance. ... Heat center Jamaal Magloire needed seven stitches to repair a cut right elbow in the first half, after he took a tumble while fighting for a rebound. ... Bobcats reserve Alexis Ajinca scratched his right cornea in the first half, after scoring four points in his only 2 minutes of playing time.

more
One more overtime thriller has the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics headed for a Game 7. Seems only fitting for this series. Derrick Rose scored 28 points and blocked Rajon Rondo's potential game-winner, John Salmons scored 35, and the Bulls beat the defending champions 128-127 in triple overtime Thursday night to even the first-round series.
Ray Allen scored a career playoff-high 51 points for the Celtics, but it's back to Boston for Game 7 on Saturday night after another instant classic in a series that had already seen its share of drama.
Three of the first five games went to overtime, including a Game 4 that went two extra periods. Another came down to the wire in regulation, but this easily trumped them all.
Rondo penetrated and pulled up on the left block with 8 seconds left and turned, only to be rejected by Rose. The rookie of the year then missed two free throws with 3.2 seconds remaining, before Rondo launched a harmless heave from beyond midcourt.
That ended the game. The series, however, continues.
"This series is a lot of fun for the fans, the people of Chicago, the people of Boston," said Joakim Noah of the Bulls, who made the go-ahead three-point play after a steal. "It's a lot of fun for us, too, playing in environments like this on the big stage. It's special to be part of this, and I know that it's a series people will be talking about for a long time."
Rose added: "It's crazy, but you got to love it."
Things might be different with a healthy Kevin Garnett, but without him, the Celtics are locked in a classic.
"It's unbelievable," Boston's Kendrick Perkins said. "Shot after shot, tough make after tough make. It's a tough series. They're a young team playing with a lot of confidence."
Tied at 123 in the third overtime, Noah stole a pass by Paul Pierce and broke upcourt for a dunk, got fouled by Pierce and hit the free throw with 35.5 seconds remaining. Eddie House quickly answered with a corner jumper, his feet on the 3-point arc, to pull the Celtics within 126-125, but Brad Miller hit two free throws to get the lead back up to three with 28 seconds left.
The Celtics weren't finished, though.
Rondo put back his own miss to make it a one-point game, and then he got a break when Kirk Hinrich missed a layup with Rondo's hand in the cylinder -- which would have been goaltending.
Allen was spectacular for Boston, finishing three points shy of John Havlicek's club playoff record and tying the NBA playoff mark with nine 3-pointers.
"It's very bittersweet," Allen said. "There's nothing to really talk about anymore. We lost and we had the agony that it wasn't enough."
Glen Davis added 23 points and Pierce had 22, but it was a difficult night for Rondo.
The Celtics' best player in the first five games, he had 19 assists and nine rebounds but scored just eight points and threw an elbow at Hinrich during a first-quarter skirmish. He heard boos and derisive chants for his foul at the end of Game 5 that left a woozy Miller with a bloody mouth before missing two tying free throws.
This time, Salmons and Rose had plenty of help from Miller, who had 23 points and 10 rebounds.
The Celtics were leading 113-111 in the second OT after Davis scored with 3:49 left, but they went cold and the Bulls grabbed the lead.
Salmons responded with a 3-pointer to put Chicago ahead and made it a three-point game with a driving layup with two minutes left.
It stayed that way until Allen, his toes touching the arc, buried a jumper from the right corner that pulled Boston within 116-115 with 20 seconds remaining. Miller hit two free throws, to make it a three-point game, but Allen wasn't finished.
He dribbled to his left and buried a 3-pointer over Hinrich to tie it with 7.6 seconds left.
"I really don't know what to say about this series," Pierce said. "This has been a phenomenal series."
Game notes Havlicek scored 54 against Atlanta on April 1, 1973. ... Rose was a unanimous pick for the all-rookie team along with Memphis' O.J. Mayo in a vote of the league's coaches.

The message was quickly scribbled on the dry-erase board in Cleveland's locker room. It said little and said it all: 1:00 AM FLY.
The Cavaliers are heading back to Florida, their wondrous season still alive.LeBron James wouldn't let it end.
James, showing off every dimension of his unstoppable game, had 37 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists, and Mo Williams, who boldly predicted the Cavs would come back and win this tight-as-can-be series, added 24 points in a 112-102 victory over the Orlando Magic in Game 5 on Thursday night.
"It was win or go home," James said.
Instead, it's back to amped-up Amway Arena for Game 6 on Saturday night. You expected anything else?
The Magic overcame a 22-point deficit but missed their first opportunity to close out the Cavaliers, who are trying to become just the ninth team since 1947 to rally and win a series after being down 3-1. Orlando will have two more tries to reach the NBA finals for the first time since 1995.
"They deserved to get this one," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said of the Cavs. "As poorly as I thought we played, we still were there with chances to win and didn't get it done. We have to get ready to go on Saturday."
For Cleveland, a city banking on James to deliver a championship after a 45-year drought, the MVP was again in a league of his own.
"His intensity and his passion are out of this world," Cavs guard Daniel Gibson said. "We will follow him. When he gets it going, there is nothing you can do."
James scored 21 points in the second half -- 17 in the fourth quarter -- and had a hand in Cleveland's first 29 points in the final 12 minutes. The last player to post at least 37-14-12 in a playoff game was Oscar Robertson in 1963.
Hedo Turkoglu scored 29 for Orlando, and Dwight Howard had 24 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out with 2:22 remaining while trying to stop James on a drive.
Not even Superman was denying James.
"I was attacking anyone in the way, no matter who it was," James said. "There's always a sense of urgency when you are on the brink of elimination."
And this time James got plenty of help. Williams, his trusty sidekick all season but a near no-show in this series, made six 3-pointers. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 16 points, Delonte West 13 and Gibson made two huge 3-pointers in the fourth quarter -- both on assists from James.
