New Born Baby Deer Rescue PelorianP... - 4,427 views - 4 weeks ago
Late in the evening a friend knocked on our door with a new born baby deer in her arms, not more than an hour old. She found the mother dead from a car accident, and the baby must have popped out of the mother during the accident. The tiny baby buck laid in his mother's blood on the side of the road. Our friend Angelea cleaned off most of the blood, and her and her mother Sakkara wrapped up the baby in a towel to bring it over to us. Without a mother, the fawn had little chance for survival, but we were determined to see her through the night until we could contact a local woman who is licensed to raise orphaned deer.

Many thanks to Angelea and Sakkara, and to Vesta for her work in helping local wildlife.

The Terrible Wound of Rosie the Deer PelorianP... - 2,729 views - 6 months ago
Our wild deer friend Rosie visits often to eat leaves and fruits from many plants in the yard, to drink from the bird bath, and to receive an occasional massage. Recently she followed her curiosity into a garage, and then when startled she jumped through a window, cutting an ugly 10 inch gash on the side of her neck. She came soon after into our yard, and we were shocked at the severity of the wound. We were not sure if she would survive. We cleaned the wound, and over the next days gave her some special herbal remedies from our friend Sharon, who prepares herbal cures for animals (http://anaflora.com). Rosie healed remarkably fast, and seems extraordinarily grateful.

Deer in the Snowy Yard PelorianP... - 2,323 views - 6 months ago
Our wild deer friends in a snowy yard. We normally don't get more than a dusting of snow once a year in this desert plateau. The deer don't seem to mind.

Opening the DNA Curtain - Starseed in Concert PelorianP... - 521 views - 7 months ago
"Opening the DNA Curtain" - Starseed in Concert. Starseed's Rasa and Marlis performing at Basha's on February 9th, 2007 in Northampton, Massachusetts.

The melody in this piece is based on an ayuhausca icaro, a traditional melody sung during an Amazonian shaman's mystic journey. The melody is used as a means for taming the spirit world in an effort to ease the often turbulent adventures of those who share the journey.

Anthropologist Jeremy Narby, in his book "The Cosmic Serpent, DNA and the Origin of Consciousness" wonders if our DNA speaks to us through the ayahuasca experience.

Quail in the Yard PelorianP... - 916 views - 8 months ago
When the deer are not eating the lawn, the quail will be brave enough to run in the yard, until something spooks them, and then they all run for the brush. Hilarious!

Deer vs Raccoon PelorianP... - 56,286 views - 10 months ago
A raccoon came into the yard in the daytime, and we threw some organic corn chips on the lawn for him. A few minutes later the deer showed up, and the raccoon ran up a tree - for a few moments. Just as the raccoon was brave enough to head for the chips, the deer noticed the chips.

The deer are used to grazing on the clover flowers and leaves in our lawn, and liked the uncommon chip bonanza. After the raccoon ate his chips, the deer decided they didn't want him anymore on what they consider the "deer's lawn."

Baby Deer in the Yard PelorianP... - 4,851 views - 11 months ago
Four wild deer we know well recently had, between them, eight babies. Eva, in her new thin self, was eager to hang out with us, perhaps to show us the new fawns, but I think also to get away from them a little for some moments. Eva will come up on the balcony, stand with us as we all look out over the yard. The babies are sometimes sleeping, hidden nearby in the woods, but also often running around the yard, jumping from new experience to new experience. In this video you can hear a baby crying a few times - one of the few times we ever hear deer vocalize. In another scene a baby sniffs something in the air, and then sneezes - pretty cute. At the beginning of the video we mistakenly say that the babies are two hours old. They were actually about 2 or 3 days old - still very new to the world!

For those keeping score at home, Mary had 1 baby, Eva had 2 babies, Rosie had 3 babies, and Shanti had 2 babies. Mary is Eva's cousin. Rosie is Eva's sister, and Shanti is Eva's daughter. Rosie's young daughter Susi makes a cameo appearance to check out Aunt Eva's babies.

Regarding advice on eating healthy . . . that's a big question, and perhaps depends on other factors, but diet is certainly important. The best advice for most people in our consumer society is eat less, and eat more simply. When you feel "poisoned," you might try eating rice every day, with steamed vegies and simple cooked lentils. That's the diet for most of Asia, and especially in India, where people are "poisoned" by bacteria very often, the rice really helps to clean out your system. Stay away from eating fast food, junk food, processed food, and most restaurant food. The fresher, the better. Also, try to eat nothing after 8pm. Your system wants to digest food from 8pm til about 10am. When you snack at night, the digestive process gets stalled. In the Tantric system, food is divided into three categories. Google "food gunas." This is a diet for yogis, but all people can benefit from the info. Good luck, and let us know how you are doing! - Rasa
