The International Day of Peace falls on 21st September each year, and is observed across the world as a unique opportunity to celebrate peace and encourage people in conflict to cease hostilities for 24 hours. We believe that locally, as we move away from decades of violence towards building the institutions, structures and opportunities for sustainable peace, our unique experience and understanding of peacebuilding has never been more significant...yet very few of us have ever heard about the International Day of Peace.

Springboard is campaigning to raise awareness of the International Day of Peace in NI and specifically at the NI Assembly. We want local people to celebrate this international day of ceasefire and non-violence, and to send a message of the journey we are making towards peace on a local level.

In 2001 a resolution was unanimously adopted by all 191 of the Member countries of the United Nations establishing a fixed annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence...This amazing day agreed by each Member country as a unique opportunity for the laying down of arms and progress towards peace falls on 21st September each year......yet how many of us ever knew it existed?
