To all of you who have stopped us in the grocery store and in various parking lots and out walking the dog to say how excited you are about the bookstore, we say thank you. We have heard an enormous cheer of support go up from every corner of this city and it's given us the energy we've needed to find the space, buy the shelves, and start putting together a staff. We're all in agreement - Nashville needs an independent bookstore. We want a place where we can shop for books, (as in pick them up, hold them, sniff them, flip through the pages, not just point and click), attend author readings, and come together to exchange ideas. That's what Parnassus Books is going to be about.
But now we need you to get involved by becoming a member of the bookstore. First, we want the community to have a sense of ownership in what we're doing. If you join us in the beginning, you're going to buy your birthday presents from us, your book club books and your summer reading books, and that's what's going to keep us in business. Second, opening a bookstore is expensive, (!!!) and your support will allow us to put on some finishing touches that will take us from really good to truly great.
Opening an independent bookstore in this modern age is a risky business. But for every one person who has told us we're out of our minds, ten more have said they'll be with us all the way. Look over our membership possibilities and find what's right for you . We want you to be part of the Parnassus team.
