The levers are how the transmission is shifted and have nothing to do with the steering wheel other than being located below it. The steering gearbox (which is located above the transmission) broke right when I shifted the car into 2nd gear. Hope this helps.

Those are air operated shifters to shift the transmission. Most current alcohol funny cars use them, but earlier funny cars were shifted with manual levers. I have gone back to shift levers because it is more fun to drive that way. Thanks for asking.
