This Cahon (Spanish for "crate") is made from a broken microwave. I've removed all the innards, bought a sheet of thin plywood, and tucked some disposable barbecue grille under the wood, and hung some more bits of grille from that, using some copper wire. The bass isn't as good as some I've heard, and it has a distinct metallic ring but, with some damping and mic EQ, it can make a good sound.

I wrote this in 1999, and it was intended to be a big hit, since there weren't many songs about mobile phones out at the time. Fifteen years later, the ubiquitous mobile has populated the r'n'b charts and famously appeared live on stage with the likes of U2. Still, I like this song, about someone trying to find their friends in the bar, with "only two bars left to go" on their phone battery. Musos may notice that this is a hip hop / drum'n'bass beat played in 6:8 time. Impressed? Hmm...
