Thomas Paine opposed slavery, was for the Separation of Church and State, advocated public schools, advised an elderly pension program, and disliked as well as disbelieved in "revealed religions." Thomas Paine has been almost forgotten and ignored by the history books except for an action that couldn't be left out if a half baked story of the American Revolution could be told. His work, Common Sense, empowered the people of the United States with the knowledge that they could govern themselves without an imperial and tyrannical regime in Britain. Today the US is in a similar position. Our very government has become the evil that we opposed. We have become an Empire that has destroyed democratic governments worldwide while suppressing liberties at home in the name of freedom.

"Conservatism was always the philosophy of Nativism, Protectionism, Nationalism, Militarism, Altruism, Traditionalism, Mercantilism, Racism, Sexism, and Theocracy. The only reason why Conservatism became friendly with Individualism was to Combat Radicalism in the form of Communism, Political Correctness, and Forced Integration. Let us not forget that Political Conservatism is the enemy, not the friend of Libertarianism" -Lysander Woods

"Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners."— Edward Abbey, A Voice Crying in the Wilderness, 1989.

"Anarchists know that a long period of education must precede any great fundamental change in society, hence they do not believe in vote begging, nor political campaigns, but rather in the development of self-thinking individuals"-Lucy Parsons

"The "health, education, and welfare" section of government is another boondoggle. First we manufacture indigent and superfluous people by legal monopolies in land, money and idea patents, erecting tariff barriers to protect monopolies from foreign competition, and taxing laborers to subsidize rich farmers and privileged manufacturers. Then we create "social workers" to care for them (laborers) and thereby establish a self-aggravating and permanent institutionalized phenomenon ."-Laurance Labadie

"Aggression is simply another name for government. Aggression, invasion, government, are interconvertible terms. The essence of government is control, or the attempt to control. He who attempts to control another is a governor, an aggressor, an invader; and the nature of such invasion is not changed, whether it is made by one man upon another man, after the manner of the ordinary criminal, or by one man upon all other men, after the manner of an absolute monarch, or by all other men upon one man, after the manner of a modern democracy."-
Benjamin R. Tucker

"Why is our flag black? Black is a shade of negation. The black flag is the negation of all flags. It is a negation of nationhood, which puts the human species against itself and denies the unity of all humankind. Black is a mood of anger and outrage at all the hideous crimes against humanity perpetrated in the name of allegiance to one state or another. It is anger and outrage at the insult to human intelligence implied in the pretences, hypocrisies, and cheap chicaneries of governments.""Black is also a color of mourning; the black flag which cancels out the nation also mourns its victims the countless millions murdered in wars, external and internal, to the greater glory and stability of some bloody state. It mourns for those whose labor is robbed (taxed) to pay for the slaughter and oppression of other human beings. It mourns not only the death of the body but the crippling of the spirit under authoritarian and hierarchic systems; it mourns the millions of brain cells blacked out with never a chance to light up the world. It is a color of inconsolable grief."-Howard Ehrlich commenting on the Black Anarchist Flag

hey, sorry it's taken me so long to respond. anyway, I did Thomas Paine because we had to do a project on an influencal person on our country for Civics and talk about a book they wrote. I heard of "Common Sense" so I read it and decided to choose him. Thanks for the five stars ^_^
