Parrots are extremely intelligent, sentient beings.
They have the cognitive abilities of a 5 year old child and require a TREMENDOUS amount of input, companionship,time and dedicated care for many, many years..

They require CONSTANT psychological & physical stimulation & excercise to be well & happy.

Many people fail their birds in this & many hundreds of birds end up in santuaries, &/or self-harming, ie. ripping out their feathers and mutilating themselves because they've been driven almost mad,-are severely psychologically damaged due to lack of proper care.

They DO NOT ALL SPEAK, nor are they all as loving & cuddly as Roo.
Some can be aggressive, will bite & do serious damage ( I know of someone who had the end of his finger bitten clean off..)and, like a toddler that will never grow out of it, can at times, drive you half mad with their demands!

They are as big, if not a bigger commitment, than keeping a dog ( they can live for up to 80 years..)& unless you are at home for most of the day and can devote the HOURS EVERYDAY to keep your bird well adjusted, stimulated, happy & healthy, PLEASE DO NOT BUY ONE.

If you are still determind to proceed and purchase one, then please EDUCATE YOURSELF fully.. and then think some more..

There is NO EXCUSE FOR IGNORANCE, especially in this age of technology and the internet is packed with info. There are also many excellent books available.
