I think that the point of the ad is being overlooked. It is trying to say that their product will be more efficient. It may look like they are bowing at their feet, but if people weren't so quick to jump to conclusions they would notice that they are sprinters in ready position. Basically saying that it is one fine tuned athlete and multiplying that single athlete would make a team more efficient. If there were any other minority in the center or white men all around there would not be any thought as to this being racist. It is people seeing the color of people's skin that creates the ideas of this being racist.
As for their initiative, that is a shame. However, just because they are backing it does not mean that they are racist as a corporation, nor that they are going to advertise anything particularly racist. If not for the common sense of not promoting racism, they wouldn't do it meerely for the fact that they are a corporation and need to have good PR. |

if i didn't know better, i'd think it was a spoof. i can hardly believe this is for real. it saddens me to see such blatant proof of the soulessness that has taken over much of corporate america. african americans bowing (shirtless, no less!!) to the white master?? to think that world-view and initiatives of people with such power are more than 100 years out of date is sincerely frightening. there's no excuse for this ad, and then to add to the insult, sure, to advocate taking away the rights of not just one ethnic group, but of ALL people who are not the fat cats by yanking our rights to legally protest discrimination on mass scales?
there is no gray area here. intel's actions are patently wrong. |

So, Intel runs this offensive ad and then tries to take away the rights of the American people to call them on it?? Doesn't seem right to me.

While I don't think it's intentionally racist, the ad (and the people involved in it ) are definitely stupid. The add doesn't make any sense! And how is it possible that it got past countless ad executives and corporate hacks, none of whom thought "hey a white guy surrounded by black clones in subservient positions, that won't bother any one!"

Thanks for posting this, I had no idea that this was happening. Advertising? I would suppose so, but advertising what, to whom and why? Insensitive only begins to describe what it is that they appear to be doing. It is outrageous.

Recently, I've come up with several reasons why I no longer support Intel, nor will I buy Intel machines (whenever it is possible to select a different option). None of my reasons for doing so have anything to do with the quality of their products. ALL of my reasons have to do with stories in the news such as this one. Every once in a while Intel just seems to shoot themselves in the foot, and they do so in such a way that it costs them customers.

another point of view is that if NO minorities were used in this ad it'd be racist too. What about all the McDonald's ads that feature only one group of people in each ad? Get over it already.

I do not think insensitive begins to cover what this commercial represents. As a country, we have such a long history of both overt and covert racism and this ad, partnered with the initiative Intel is proposing, goes to show how present those attitudes are. Corporations have a huge upper hand financially when it comes to class action law suits to take away a persons right to even initiate a claim seems crazy and Un-American. This ad is a perfect example of how essential it is to have the right to protect ourselves against racial, gender and sexual discrimination. How many rights do we have to have taken away before people decide to take a stand?
