I enjoy being a subscriber and look forward to your next venture into the past. When I was living in NYC, one of the church singing jobs I had was at an old German Lutheran Church in Bedford-Styvesant. The Germans had all moved to the suburbs, but still supported and attended the services on Sunday.I think I got combat pay for the night subway journey from Manhattan to choir practice. I'll never forget singing at a Greek Orthodox service in Brooklyn. The long service, and all the chanting and candles made it an unforgettable experience. Then I sang, one Christmas Eve, at a Swedish Lutheran Church. These Brooklyn Swedes had me sing O Holy Night in Swedish. I have a lot of wonderful memories from whe we lived in NYC.
Keep up your good work on YouTube. Mr C. .
I just had my computer fixed. Now I have finallly heard your last video about opera and the various singers you have heard, especially from Brooklyn. All good stuff. I heard Leonard Warren sing a concert at The Brooklyn Academy in the early 50's. I saw Lawrence Tibbet summersault down the stairs in a performance of Faust in Chicago too. In opera, things happen as, I remember from my own humble experiences on stage. Actually, it's the mistakes that audiences remember. It makes performance unique. I remember a saying from when I was in the army in WWII, "You can always tell a New Yorker (Texans too), but you can't tell 'em much." Brooklynites are unique too! God Bless them. We need a little spice for the flavor.
Anyway, I'd like to thank you. I really enjoyed your telling of your recollection of the play!
