Enschede - Portrait of a Violin Maker is a piece made during my time as Artist in Residence at the B93 studios in Enschede, featuring local violin maker Erik Put, as he re-hairs a bow.
Enschede is a city on the east side of The Netherlands, located just a few kilometres from the German border. Enschede is the last stop on the Dutch train lines, and the last stop before Germany. Enschedeis a former centre of textile production. When this industry left the area for cheaper production centers in South-East Asia in the 1970's, Enschede became one of the poorest municipalities in the Netherlands. In 2000 there was a major disaster in Enschede when the local fireworks factory exploded, destroying whole neighbourhoods in the city. However I was disappointed to find that apart from the odd old factory building here and there, Enschede is quite a functional, modern city, and not half as bleak as I had expected and hoped!
This piece was shown as part of a solo show I held in Tatem II in Enschede. It was also part of the group show (ik)Enschede, held recently in Enschede.

Enschede - German In, German Out is a piece made during my time as Artist in Residence at the B93 studios in Enschede. It was shot early one morning as the trains arrived in from Germany bringing in Germans and taking others away.

It is the home of Grolsch, and the building in this piece with the builders lights attcahed to the facade is in fact the original Grolsch factory.

Enschede - The Magical Power of Objects on Bicycles is a piece made during my time as Artist in Residence at the B93 studios in Enschede. I could not believe the sheer amount of people that use bicycles, it's the absolute main form of transport, man, woman or child!
