The 1st annual Yamaha Freeride Australian Open was held January 21 2009 and it was the Frenchmen Pierre Maixent that took home top spot and a brand new Yamaha Superjet with a brilliant performance of freeriding throughout the day.

The first stop of the 2009 Urban Rider King of Winch was held at Docklands in conjunction with the Melbourne Boat Show in February. The 3rd Anniversary Rail Jam at the Daniel Watkins DejaVu wakeboard store on the Gold Coast was held on February 15 2009. The event coincided with the 2nd stop of the 2009 King Of Winch tour presented by Urban Rider winches. Once again Daniel Watkins and his team at DejaVu stepped it up a notch this year, riding two riders at once, experimenting with board "bonking" and Daniel arrived at the event in a unique fashion courtesy of ABC Heli and the Gold Coast Titans.
