Tarek Atoui is an electro-acoustic musician who creates a distinctive soundscape using digital technology in intensely expressive performances. Using dedicated programs of his own design for each composition, Atouis experimental practice draws on traditions of electronic music, performance art, and digital technology to create a unique method of working across disciplines and social groups.
At the New Museum, Atoui will work with twenty teens from the Museums G:Class high school program and New York Citys Department of Parks and Recreation RECYouth summer youth program. During the workshop, teens will view previous Empty Cans videos and develop and execute their own video and sound concepts, building tools for self-expression. Participants will also develop and rehearse individual roles using the Wii controllers to manipulate the video for the culminating performance at the Museum August 8, 2009 at 3 pm.

LEWIS FOREVER IN RESIDENCE Week 2: Uncovered, an exposé How much do we really know about LEWIS FOREVER? Rare access has been obtained revealing the individual members that belong to the myth, the mystery, the exotified legend of LEWIS FOREVER.
Please email your questions or thoughts by Thursday June 11th, 2009 . Your curiosity will be quenched on Thursday as your questions and thoughts are addressed live at the New Museum at 7:00 pm.
LEWIS FOREVER is in residence at the New Museum for the month of June, presenting new work in progress every Thursday night, responding to your input, and making up their mind as they go along. Their work is messy, raw, shockingly informal, and generously inclusive.
LEWIS FOREVER is a performance collective of four siblings: three sisters and a brother; a director, two dancers, and a musician. Living half in New York and half in Europe, half Dominican and half Jewish American, LF is both a performance collective and a bloodline. LF is interested in the family structure as a site for recasting the molds that shape our understandings of the world.

The content of LFs residency will focus on the simultaneous development of a series of a solo projects and a video/live performance project. Throughout, LF will employ a variety of different strategies for investigating and expanding this material in front of a live audience. Each presentation will offer new insights and alterations to the material, which will then inform the following weeks rehearsals and presentation. The audience will be involved as observers and critics have the opportunity to participate and directly interact with LF. LF will use that feedback and respond to it for each subsequent step. LF will, on certain days, open the rehearsal process to willing participants in one of many approaches they are investigating to develop the process of working collectively. Throughout the residency, LF will explore the process of devising and shaping new material as a collective and a family, sharing the unique pleasures and challenges of such a process, while developing new material that will be presented in its finished form later this year in Berlin.
