I have this odd setup on my desk - one laptop running slackware, and second laptop running windows (using external display only). Most of the time I use both of them. But once in a while, I'd prefer to work on one of them only, but use two displays.

Now solution to that is quite simple: create a virtual display device, launch vnc on this device, launch vnc client in fullscreen on 2nd machine. voila! :]
