Story is like running next to a steam train. He runs hard and fast and gives it everything he has. He is the most honest dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning. Story is my all around border collie, he loves people, dogs, freestyle, agility and herding, and not in that particular order. He comes to work with me most every evening to work with the puppies, and helps older dogs regain socialization when they are ready.
Thank you Story, you amaze me everyday, I love you!

$eeker - The Young One! nancyspore - 32 views - 1 day ago
$eeker is our youngest border collie. If he could hang with the kids in the sand box or help play badmitten, he would. He loves to hang with the kids. When he isn't he is a workaholic, intense, and really focused. He started competing in agility February 2009, will compete in MDSA freestyle, and we are going to start herding in the fall.

Ocean will try any thing you ask of her as long as things stay fast and fun. She new what a Wilson tennis ball was at 7 weeks of age and we took off running from there.
Ocean was the #1 weaving 20" mix breed dog in NADAC two years in a row, has numerous herding titles, competes in MDSA freestyle, and has won numersous tricks contests... and she is my #1 best friend and team mate!

'Go To Mat' adult dog beginning - Paws & People nancyspore - 1,533 views - 1 year ago
This is a great behavior with many applications for your adult dog; for target training, a place to settle, go away from me when I ask you, come back when I need you.

Class #2 Creative Heeling - words & proofing position - Paws & People nancyspore - 374 views - 3 months ago
Week #2 - Everyone did such a great job during the past week, the improvements in class last night were amazing, and all of your dogs were 'wow!'. Good work!

After spending the first week allowing the dog to find the position of side and/or heel and rewarding, we are now going to hold the reward in the hand on the hip (right or left side) and put a word to it (everyone seems to have a different word, just keep it simple), for example mine is 'side'.

REMINDERS - If your dog pushes forward the reward should be in the hand on the same side as the dog. If your dog 'lags behind' your reward should be in the hand on the opposite side of the dog, BUT placed on your hip as the same side as the dog (this will pull them slightly forward)

Rule of 7 - work with 7 or less rewards in your hand at a time, when they are gone go and get 7 more. Theses short sessions and short breaks help to build interest in the work. When you are 'breaking' for more rewards, ignore your dog, but then get 'excited' when you are going back to work.

With each short session (7 rewards or less) you will see bits of improvement each time.

Move slightly forward, move to the side, move in a circle. Reward for the position of 'next to you with head over and up'

Don't try to cover distance yet, the postion needs to be really strong first before 'moving out'

Have fun this week!

Class #3 -
Great Night last night! We worked on attention at side, some dogs were ready to move out some were not, everyone did a great job with that!

Started with -
-Attention at side
-rewards in closed hand at side
-moving out, or turing to continue to capture side
-remote & delayed reward (premack's principle' focus on me to access what you want'. This is a powerful way to build great focus!
-Cross Overs / Switch - strting to change sides while moving out. from right to left and left to right. Around, In, Twirl, Spin, Front are all helpful behaviors to have with this.
