Madiz is a 57 meter steel yacht built in 1902 by Ailsa Shipbuilding Co at Troon, on the river Clyde, Scotland.
After a major refit in 2006 she was re-classed under Lloyds Register to her original Class of +100A1.
She is now the oldest steel or iron vessel to be classed by Lloyd's Register.
At 105 years old, she is also the oldest seagoing Clyde-built vessel still in active service.
Madiz was designed by G. L. Watson, a famous and pioneering yacht designer.
In the 2nd World War, she was chosen to carry King George VI, Queen Elisabeth and the then Princess Elisabeth on a Victory Cruise.
Christie's of London once called her "as rare as a Rembrandt". She is a prime example that ships do not die of old age but of neglect.
If a vessel is loved by its owners and taken care of properly, there is no reason its can't live forever.
