To all opera lovers, In my 60 years reading Opera News, I will state categorically that I have NEVER been so incensed at an article,this written by Mr. David J. Baker's on Carmen, in which he totally omits the name of one of the greatest singers ever associated with the role of Carmen. Rise Stevens sang the role at the Met 124 times, including 11 broadcasts and was as closely associated with the role as Lotte Lehmann as the Marschallin, Ezio Pinza as Don Giovanni,Maria Callas as Norma, etc. This man totally insults Mme.Stevens.
