Britain had the greatest empire ever, the only truly global language and the industrial revolution (to name but a few) We gave the world Led Zeppelin, The Who, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, William Shakespeare, William Blake, John Milton, the internet, sandwiches, penicillin etc etc.The Empire is gone but the world still moves to the beat of the British drum in the form of the British commonwealth and more importantly, the global Anglosphere.
