Oh, and I forgot to answer your question about consciousness as atoms, no, I wouldn't say that it is. However, I would also say that consciousness is not possible without a brain to cause its function.

Semantics. In a sense, I would say that was correct. Belief in a god is like belief in magic of a card trick. Just because you cannot understand the how doesn't mean it was done by magic. Purpose doesn't come from a god, it is what a person makes it (although some attribute purpose to a belief). Growth and learning doesn't come from a god, and if you want to take it a step further to religion, religion stumps both by citing they already have all the answers. You can say a god caused this or made that, but in the end you are using something that can't be explained to explain another thing that can't be explained, and end up right back where you started. As for consciousness, as I asked before, what has a consciousness without a brain?

As for illusion, protons give density, texture, etc. What we see is all merely atoms; that is the illusion, an interpretation, or more so, a deception of the senses. I truly appreciate your aspect on it all, and your way of thinking, it is rare that one gives an angle worth giving thought to. That said, I have a hard time seeing where a god fits into the equation, and in essence, to me, a god of those proportions would have to be both light and dark, both matter and anti-matter, of this world yet not of it: effectively canceling itself out, being on both sides of the equation, and something that doesn't need consideration.

Similar, yes, but not the same. The difference is having wonder and awe, and believing in something based on that wonder and awe without reason. It is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug. As for illusion, it absolutely makes sense if you are thinking as a physicist, which is a reasonable conclusion since Einstein was. The consciousness aspect is because of that illusion. As Democritus said, nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion. In this, reality is an illusion, one that consciousness interprets. I take it you didn't like Shinedown?

But that is not what Einstein meant. He talked about imagination as his religion, the wonder and awe of the unknown, of things that are and may always be beyond human comprehension. As for illusion, he was talking about the illusion of anything given by protons in the space between atoms. It is also in this sense that he talked of great spirits, not as ghosts or gods or anything of the sort, but as consciousness. Which begs the question, what has a consciousness without a brain?

Obama...JFK:
Where do you think Republican talk show hosts get their material from? People like you are perfect models 1-- when i leave a thoughtful comment with a point, you censor because it does not fit your political idealogy 2-- you respond to reasoning and logic with bitterness 3-- you made this ridiculous analysis: "Volunteering is not an option." "pay your taxes"? I already do. Try getting your Democrat buddies to do that ... Geithner, Daschle, Rangel, Franken, Kennedy ... |

If by imagination you mean thinking beyond what you are taught, I agree. If you are talking about religion in the same sense that Einstein was religious, I agree. If you are talking about great spirits as those who strongly opposed mistakes in commonplace thinking, I agree. If you are saying that reality is subject to perception, I agree.

In essence, what Obama wants is about the same as enslaving 1.5 million people. So... who wants to volunteer !!!
You people don't have a choice. Volunteering is not an option. The dems run this country now. So quit whining, pay your taxes, and STFU! |
