Piccolo Kantele & 10 String Kantele, Michael King, Video Blog#3 michaeljking - 856 views - 4 months ago
I only occasionally make these smaller piccolo Kanteles, but I thought I would share this while I had a couple around to show, they are quieter than the standard 5 string but that might be advantageous to some, not really a childs instrument, I would recommend an inbetween size for a child or a full size model.

Stick Dulcimer Making part 4.3, gluing the struts michaeljking - 1,372 views - 7 months ago
I normally use an mdf board the same shape as the soundboard to do the gluing up of the braces, I couldn't find it today so It meant I had to use my long reach clamps!! improvising is part of the making process...

You can taper the ends of the struts after gluing. but with the softwood soundboard at around 2mm I go for the safer option.

The next episode in the sequence will be all about the neck, though for my filming it will be about changes to the mold/mould I have made!!

Happy Holidays!! and to all a Merry Christmas

Hello, your Lyres are brilliant! do you know the method used in England during the dark ages for playing the lyre? (sounds like a really stupid question on the face of it) The way you play sounds very pretty in particular the picking method. However it sounds very harmonic and chordal amd i was under the impression that the origins of western harmony started in the 1100's in winchester cathederal and therefore our Anglo-Saxon ancestors must have played differently??? Any info advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
