This is an effects test I did for a sci-fi internet mini series. I am working out the bugs associated with doing film-quality lens flare effects from a moving 3D object. I used a composite of 3D generated effects and post render effects.

In this video, I quickly describe how I created the blood gunshot effect video. This method is simple and can be duplicated with other programs.

Basically, I created blood decals for the walls and created blood animations to make the blood drip down the wall. Then, I placed them in the environment, added color correction, masking to make the effect fall behind the actor, and gun flares to increase the effect.

I created this effect to see how easily blood on walls could be created. This effect can be used for local effects such as in the demonstration. The difficult part is creating bullet holes in the character, and this will be shown in a future video.

And while astronomers are not yet able to look for signs of biology on the planet, the discovery is a milestone in planet detection and the search for extraterrestrial life, one with the potential to profoundly change our outlook on the universe.
