Self-Massage Legs (Part 1)
The role of Medical massage in cases Restless Leg Syndrome
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is the disorder characterized by an urge to move in order to stop uncomfortable sensations. Pains usually intensify during the period of relaxation; reading, studying, or an attempt to sleep. It is important to remember that classic RLS symptoms include limb jerking during sleep, which is a main objective physiological marker of RLS.
Growing pains (GP) during teen years, demonstrate the same symptoms such as urge to move in order to stop uncomfortable sensations when attempting to sleep. However, GP do not demonstrate increase in pain sensation when relaxing, reading, or studying, during the day.
Most importantly GP, as many other disorders, do not demonstrate legs jerking during sleep. For example, people suffering from Thromboangiitis obliteraans a.k.a Buerger's disease, at nighttime can experience similar symptoms, including painful muscular cramps. Patients with diabetes often suffer from blood vessel pathologies (diabetic angiopathy.)
In addition to vascular spasms and narrowing of the arterial lumen, the arteries and the capillary network can undergo significant pathological changes. Such changes can produce symptoms similar to RLS. Often, people suffering from so-called "Charley Horse" report symptoms similar to RLS. Similarly, people suffering from nocturnal leg cramps, when, few fibers of muscle may be in cramp, report absolutely the same symptoms as RLS.
Massage therapy can play a serious role in any of the above mentioned conditions. In the following series of video clips Boris proposes special massage techniques that can be helpful for those suffering from aforementioned syndromes.
The common symptoms of all mentioned disorders are: the reaction of leg muscles to vigorous exercise exhaustion, urge to move, sensitivity of muscles to pressure and some other. In the following series of clips Boris proposes techniques that usually utilized for athlete's rehabilitation from exercise side effects. These techniques proved to be advantageous in recovery from exhausted, sensitive and painful muscles and therefore are beneficial in cases of restless leg syndrome.

Self-massage for lower back pain
Sciatic nerve neuralgia is considered to be one of the most difficult abnormalities of the support and movement system. Clinical expressions of sciatic nerve neuralgia include sharp pain irradiating to the lower extremities which increases during any of the patient's attempts to move and of course limited range of motion on all axes and planes. Usually, when a patient appears at the doctor's office with such a difficult clinical picture, in addition to prescribing painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, and/or utilizing injections, the doctor will usually refer the patient for radiological examination. Today, the most common radiological examinations are the MRI and/or CT scan. In many cases, MRI test detects bulging and/or herniation of discs. If symptoms are not alleviated in a period of a few weeks due to conservative methods of treatments (above mentioned oral or injected medication) consideration will be given to surgical intervention. The problem is that in many cases, this difficult neurological picture is not the result of the disc herniation, but is actually the result of piriformis muscle syndrome that being muscular
treatment could be successfully treated by massage, post isometric techniques, cold and hot applications. Reoccurrence of the painful symptoms must be prevented by special rehabilitative exercises.

ACL/Knee Injury Rehabilitation
In this series of videos Boris explains the nature of knee sports and job related injuries and proposes self-massage protocols as well as exercise program used, in cases of ACL anterior cruciate ligament, lateral collateral ligament, medial collateral ligament, arthritis, lateral medial meniscus, patellar ligaments, quadriceps tendons and other injuries. Boris also explains the nature of partial tear vs. total tears of muscles, tendons and ligaments.
His demonstration includes trigger point therapy, myofascial release techniques, ice and hot stone massage performed on a model and in self-maintenance case.
Also let's keep in mind that knee should be viewed as multi-anatomical component structure, and regardless of what was the target of a surgery: ligaments, tendons, meniscus, etc, or which anatomical component was traumatized more as a result of sprain/strain injury, the entire knee region, including muscular structure, must be addressed.

Whiplash type sports and car related injuries
Whiplash injury occurs as a result of rear end car collisions or at the time of sports activities; being hit/pushed from rear with force. Due to whiplash a person can sustain multiple region injuries such as pain in neck and upper back, shoulder, chest and other regions, could experience severe headaches and many other painful symptoms. This type of severe sprain strain injuries, in many cases leads to partial or even total rotator cuff tears, multiple level of disk herniathions, rib rotation, acute inflammations. If not addressed appropriately, these injuries could become chronic inflammation, which with time can cripple a person. But even with no so significant structural damages, this type of soft tissue injuries must be addressed by adequate treatment, that includes myofacial release techniques, trigger point therapy, ice and cold applications, post-isometric relaxation techniques, lymph drainage for lymphedema size management and more. Otherwise with time one can develop not proportional to age osteoarthritis, as well as other degenerative not reversible diseases of spine and joints. At this series of videos, Boris teaching how to assess injuries and proposes hands-on techniques, on all painful areas.
These techniques were scientifically and clinically proven to be safe and effective. Boris also stresses, why not to use painkillers, non-steroid and steroids anti-inflammatory drugs only, but also to incorporate proposed methodology and address real causes of pain, as well as to prevent speeding developments of degenerative diseases that age us. Prevention of and slowing down osteoarthritis developments, and prevention of developments of other spinal and joints degenerative diseases, is a real anti-aging effort. Advil, Tylenol, Celebrex and other drugs play their role, but not actually address pain causes that Boris explaining in details, as well teaching what to do in such cases.
