INSIDE THE WALLS
As I understand Nicolas Bourriaud it is not a question of choice of material or even form. The most important aspect is what the artist want to say or do. As a DJ he can mix anything if it sound good or interesting.
My work is for an old notion totally unoriginal. I take material made by somebody else and twist it with a strategy invented by someone else. Unoriginal? Gilles Deleuze write in Différence et répétition (Difference and Repetition) that a copy newer is just a copy! It always contains something new!
So my thesis could be describe like this:
Original + Unoriginal = Zorginal.
Indenfor murene (Inside the Walls) was written by Henri Nathansen (1868-1944) in 1912.
Never, never! Let it be a lie. My daughter engaged to a Goy. Never!
The Goy is a Danish name for Jew. The conflict of the play is bitingly relevant today. Try exchanging Jewish for Greek and see what happens! Not much presumably, but I will do it anyhow to explorer the cultural difference between Denmark (or Germany where I live) and Greece.
I will literally cook soup for everybody. Thats central to the original piece and funny that soup cooking according to Bourriaud has become the cliché for relational art!
I will therefore copy the way Rirkrit Tiravanija cooked and make a cultural soup.
In the beginning of the last century soup cocking was used to make a play seems more real. The audience couldnt only smell the soup in the original performance. In Zarathustras Uncle reconstruction they will be able to taste the original Danish wheat and meatball soup!
