The Conduit: My Custom Control Scheme mariomguy - 90 views - 3 days ago
I loved Metroid Prime 3's controls, so I modeled the controls in The Conduit after that game. This meant narrowing down the bounding box so the screen can turn much more easily. Second, I raised the controller sensitivity and turning speed so I could aim quickly from target to target and turn around fast without getting disoriented. Finally, I made some other simple adjustments like moving the pause button from "2" to "1" so I don't have to dislocate my thumb. I also lowered the nunchuck sensitivity because it's way to touchy. I scratched my head and accidentally threw a grenade in an elevator.

There are many options to adjust, but the most important ones are the dead zone, aiming sensitivity, and turning speed. There are some strange options too like controlling the camera left and right with the nunchuck. The entire button layout can be designed as well, but I just based my set-up on the default "Washington" configuration.

Everyone should try to find a set-up that works for them at the beginning of the game. If you don't mold the controls to your liking you definitely won't appreciate the experience.

The Conduit: Ambush at Jefferson Memorial mariomguy - 86 views - 4 days ago
There is a plot twist revealed in this video and description. It's only the third level though (second excluding the tutorial). The story is boring and predictable anyway, so I can definitelly say that watching this video won't hamper your experience with the game. This warning is for purists only, so enjoy!

The Conduit is completely devoid of boss fights. In their place at the end of each level is an army of enemies and enemy spawners. Clearing them all can become a chore, but other times it's quite fun and action-packed. This particular moment marks the turning point in the story at the end of the second level (not counting the tutorial). John Adams betrays Michael Ford and leaves him fending off a wave of aliens. At the same time, Prometheus contacts Michael and helps him through the situation. This was played at the "elevated" difficulty level (3/5).

The Conduit: Introduction mariomguy - 99 views - 5 days ago
The Conduit is an ambitious effort by High Voltage Software to create a solid First Person Shooter on the Wii. You play though the eyes of Michael Ford, an Agent who is recruited by John Adams to help stop threatening Alien invasions around Washington D.C. John Adams leads an organization known as "The Trust," a shadow organization with a paradoxical name.

Shown here are the game's introduction cutscenes and the tutorial level.

Part of the ending to the Kirby Superstar sub-game "Spring Breeze." The music from this game is so happy, fast-paced, and of a very high quality for an SNES game made in 1993.

Just wanted to get in one more video before The Conduit. I'll probably play through it a bit before I start recording anything, but I'd like to hear your requests :)

High Quality Test mariomguy - 81 views - 2 weeks ago
Test for video quality. 2 mbps, 856X480

So, Youtube changed the requirements for high quality playback and nobody told me anything about it :( If the height of a video is less than 480, it'll bump your resolution down to 480X360 or 400X226. I record my videos at 720X480 with wide pixels, which is then converted to 856X480 square pixels for Youtube.

The new High Quality playback is encoded at 900 kbps in mp4. Audio is encoded at 128 kbps and 44.1 khz in stereo AAC. For the best video quality, video and audio settings should meet or exceed these standards, preferably in an mp4 file format. I capture in mpeg2, export in wmv, and it's finally encoded on Youtube in mp4.

Kirby Superstar: Wham Bam Rock mariomguy - 131 views - 3 weeks ago
Longtime Nintendo fans will remember this: the final boss from The Great Cave Offense, one game in the compilation called Kirby Superstar. The Master Hand from Smash Brothers is based off of this boss. Melee's All-Stars mode was inspired by The Arena in this game, which pits players against every boss fight. They even used the same music! Brawl's Subspace Emissary is based off of The Great Cave Offense in this game, complete with secret puzzle rooms. The maze subsection plays even more like The Great Cave Offense with mine carts, non-linear progression, and save rooms. No doubt about it, this game was an inspiration to the developers when creating the Smash Brothers series.

Kirby Superstar stands out from most Kirby games because of the range of moves offered with each of the 15-20 abilities. Many of Kirby's moves in Smash Brothers stemmed from this game, namely his cutter, ninja, fighter, stone, hammer, and cook abilities. Unfortunately, the game has yet to see a console re-release. This game was at the top of my "must buy" list, but 300+ virtual console releases later, no dice.

I strongly recommend the DS remake or even a PC emulation of this game to anybody. It still plays amazingly even after 14 years (it was initially released in Japan in 1995). This video was recorded from a PC emulation of the game.

Super Mario Galaxy: Luigi's (150) Purple Coins mariomguy - 233 views - 4 weeks ago
In my last video, I asked for video requests I could fulfill in Super Mario Galaxy. Several people have requested collecting all the coins and reaching the star before time ends in this level. The first request was by superriku11, then it was seconded by mattrdsx2, and then I got some encouragement from lonewolf0401.

This level is much more tightly built than I had previously imagined! They knew someone would attempt all 150 coins, so they laid out the groundwork for a run like that.

By the way, I still accept requests! Currently, I'm stuck between a Mario Sunshine minigame, a Cosmic Mario race in Galaxy, or anything in World 8 of Super Mario Bros. 3 (sorry matterdsx2, I'm not going to speedrun that game!).

Super Mario Galaxy: Electric Labyrinth mariomguy - 179 views - 1 month ago
Both segments really were completed together :) Even though it was my 25th - 30th run.

I want to continue doing Galaxy videos, but I want to hear your requests! It can be a level you need help with, or just a "difficult" level you'd like to see me run through. I read all my comments before I even touch my messages, so you can request any video or any challange on any of my videos and I'll be sure to accept it :)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Trailer (E3 2009) mariomguy - 443 views - 1 month ago
The sequal to Super Mario Galaxy on Wii. Reggie comments (over and over again) about the sequal being more challanging than the original:

---

IGN: You have a bit more insight on the development of Galaxy 2. What's the direction for the game? Do they really want to blow it out or will it be more of the same?

Reggie: What Mr. Miyamoto has shared is that if the first Galaxy was maybe more inviting in terms of all the audiences, what Galaxy 2 is going to be is maybe a little more Nintendo fan / harder gamer focused. A little tougher. The use of Yoshi makes it a little more challenging. We showed some of the snippets of some of the activities -- it's a bit more challenging. It's going to be, if you will, for more of that passionate Mario fan who grew up getting challenged with Super Mario World. It's going to be much more in that area.

Personally, I'm up for the challange. I hope it doesn't step down to Sunshine's cheap mechanics in the minigames for that difficulty though. Of all Nintendo's E3 2009 games, this is the one I'd most easily put my money on. I'm expecting more diversity and "challange" from this game than the original, which is very welcoming for the Mario series.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii (On Stage @ E3 2009) HD mariomguy - 612 views - 1 month ago
This New Super Mario Bros. is a throwback to the style of the original Super Mario Bros. and allows four players to play the game together.

Players can navigate the side-scrolling worlds alone as before or invite up to three others to join them at the same time on the same level at any point in the game for competitive and cooperative multiplayer fun. With the multiplayer mode, the newest installment of the most popular video game franchise is designed to bring yet another type of family entertainment into living rooms and engage groups of friends in fast-paced Super Mario Bros. fun.

Metroid: Other M Trailer (E3 2009) mariomguy - 171 views - 1 month ago
Nintendo is teaming with Team Ninja to create a brand new installment of the Metroid series for the Wii. Citing Team Ninja's "proven track record in the mature space" (Team Ninja is responsible for the Ninja Gaiden franchise), Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime is pleased to introduce a newer, darker look for Samus.

The trailer for Metroid: Other M shows off a huge action-oriented adventure with third-party views for epic fight scenes as well as some through-the-visor gameplay. In the teaser trailer, Samus is just tearing apart aliens and monsters with multiple weapons, including a winged beast the looks an awful lot like Ridley. (Really, once you see the trailer, you will realize you have never seen Samus like this; it's loaded with brutal action.) Fils-Aime also says the game will "take you deeper into Samus' story."

The partnership is an intriguing and promising step forward for not just Metroid, but Nintendo. Team Ninja is known for delivering seriously hardcore action. This is a recognition of the need to deliver core experiences for core gamers that have supported Nintendo in both fat and lean years.

Metroid: Other M is currently slated for 2010.
