Cold Comfort Farm (1995)

This is yet another great adaptation of a great book - and it's so delightfully funny and cleverly-written. Kate is so lovely in her role as Flora. Her appearance as a penniless heroine reminded me of Emma Woodhouse and Northanger Abbey. Don't miss the hilarity-driven performances by respected actors like Ian McKellen, Eileen Atkins, Rufus Sewell, Stephen Fry, and Rupert Penry-Jones!

Mansfield Park (1999)

A 1999 film, "Mansfield Park" written and directed by Patricia Rozema, is inspired by Jane Austen's novel by the same name. This movie is perhaps the most experimental Jane Austen adaptation so far - you are in for a surprise.

Circle of Friends (1995)

"Circle of Friends", set in 1950's Ireland, centers around Benny and Eve as they enter student life at University College, Dublin. Here Benny and Eve re-unite with their childhood friend Nan Mahon, the 'college belle'. They also encounter the handsome and charming Jack Foley, whom Benny quickly falls for. This movie is one my old favorites, and Minnie Driver's film debut performance in this film is phenomenal. Check out the book by Maeve Binchy; though I have not read the original source, I heard that it is very well-written and less fairytale-like than this one.

Persuasion (1995)

In my opinion, this film adaptation of Jane Austen's "Persuasion" is far superior to other productions. Made for British television and originally screened by the BBC in April 1995. The script and the acting are brilliant, and as a film its quality is very good. The main actors may look a little bit "old" at first glance, but they quickly grow on you. I love Ciarán Hinds.

Me Without You (2001)

This is one of my favorite movies EVER - "Me Without You" is an energetic, fun, yet dramatic coming-of-age movie about the two best friends Holly and Marina who live in London in the 1970s and 1980s. Michelle Williams and Anna Friel are such outstanding young actresses who (very convincingly) bring these complex characters to life. And this film made me fall in love with Oliver Milburn. Enjoy the film!
