A 1999 film, "Mansfield Park" written and directed by Patricia Rozema, is inspired by Jane Austen's novel by the same name. This movie is perhaps the most experimental Jane Austen adaptation so far - you are in for a surprise.

Persuasion (1995)

In my opinion, this film adaptation of Jane Austen's "Persuasion" is far superior to other productions. Made for British television and originally screened by the BBC in April 1995. The script and the acting are brilliant, and as a film its quality is very good. The main actors may look a little bit "old" at first glance, but they quickly grow on you. I love Ciarán Hinds.

I Capture the Castle (2003)

Based on Dodie Smith's novel of the same title, the film tells a story of a 17-year-old girl Cassandra Mortmain and her eccentric family struggling to survive in a decaying English castle. This is a good adaptation of the novel I thought, with great performances by the actors, good script and direction, and eye-candy cinematography. Don't miss the music by Dario Marianelli!
