About Me:
MAHALAB are an unusual voice-bass-drum trio originally formed by Maurício Verderame (bass), Jamila Maia (voice), and Pedro Moreno (drums), who joined the band a little afterwards. Pedro left the band in October 2007, and was replaced by drummer and percussionist Ricardo Saldaña.
In September 2005 Maurício and Jamila left the ethnic music group in which they'd met. They presently began working together, creating some of Mahalab's first material. The duo looked onwards, and attempted to further their work with the aid of other musicians. After several tryouts, Pedro was the only new member, and the band acquired their trio form. Already in early 2006 Mahalab were performing frequently in São Paulo, wherever there was space for new music; places such as Mauro Discos, Clube Caiubi and Caretas Bar; and also alternative spaces, such as soirées and yoga schools. Onstage, Mahalab bring forward their lively personality and envelop the audience in beautiful melody and profound lyrics, all presented in strong, emotional performances that never go unnoticed.
The group recorded two EP (the first in Abril 2006, the last in February 2007) with five songs each, and both are available for free download in their website.
