The banks of the Vltava River in what is now Prague were settled by Slavs in the 5th and 6th centuries. In 1324, Prague became the Imperial residence of Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor. His reign from 1346 to 1378 was an era of prosperity for the city, marked by the construction of the Charles Bridge. Between 1526 and 1913 the city was under the control of the Habsberg Empire. With the 1918 end of the World War I, Czechoslovakia became an independent republic with Praque as its capital. In 1938, a large part of the country was annexed to Nazi Germany. After World War II, the Communist party came to power with the country dominated by the Soviet Union. The Velvet Revolution began in November, 1989. The citizens of Prague revolted peacefully, electing the poet Vaclev Havel as president. In 1993, Czechoslovakia was divided into two countries (Czech and Slovak Republics) and Praque became the capital of an independent Czech Republic. This is a remix of my 2005 video of the Bobova Draha bobsled run in the Czech Republic. I did the remix to see how much the quality would improve with YouTube's new high quality video, widescreen playback. Bobova Draha is located in the town of Spindleruv Myln at the gateway to the Czech Mountains. My friend thought I'd kill myself. I took the run six times, faster on each attempt, with a one really spectacular spill (not shown), but no serious injuries. I showed her. Fun, Fun, Fun!

I captured the audio on this clip by accident (I left my video camera on) and luckily a friend took one photo of the negotiations. While waiting in line for an elephant ride at Bayon Temple, I was suddenly surrounded by a bunch of little girls ranging in age from about 5 up to about 12. They started working me to buy their t-shirts and trinkets. The negotiations were delightful. The kids were quite successful.

Bakong is one of a group of three temples (Bakong, Preah Ko and Lolei) that predate the central temples of Angkor Thom. Bakong is located about 13 kilometres south-west of Siem Reap. The temple was completed in the late 9th century, during the reign of Indravarman I. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva. Bakong is the first temple mountain or step pyramid built by the Khmer kings. The temple is constructed of a laterite mound finished in sandstone.
