What is the Large Hadron Collider?
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles -- the fundamental building blocks of all things. Scientists hope that it will revolutionize our understanding, from the miniscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe.

Okay, I really don't think the new Large Hadron Collider is going to destroy our precious little Earth.
As a matter of fact, I find all this science stuff very fascinating, and quite safe.
From what I understand from reading CERNs website, and other various blogs, scientists are trying to find a new generation of particles which would help in the understanding of elementary physics, the universe and its origin.
The "Holy Grail" of these particles is called the Higgs Boson particle. This elusive particle has been nicknamed "The God particle" because scientists believe that this one missing particle holds many answers.
Which brings us full circle back to my "Do You Believe in God" video.

Lou's thought's:
Whatever new answers these scientists uncover about particle physics, it's not going to change my personal belief that God exists.
But that's just me. I would love to hear everyone's opinion, from what you think about this new particle collider, to how you think our universe was created.

As for the safety of the new particle collider, check out this page from CERN's website:

For some strange reason, I always thought that the July 4, 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence, was the END of the Revolutionary War.
I was so wrong.
It was just the beginning of our independence. We still had to spank the British out of North America.
So, even though George Washington crossed the Delaware River on Christmas Day, 1776, the REASON he had to originated on July 4, 1776.
So, Happy Independence Day! (I think!)

Fact: YouTube currently is not making a profit.
In fact, YouTube hasn't made a profit since it began in 2005.
Why? Because the operating costs of running this great web site are greater than the amount of revenue that is being generated.
Here are a few questions for my YouTube survey. As always, please feel free to comment!
Have you ever clicked on an advertisement located on a YouTube page?
Be honest.
How much is YouTube worth to you? For example:
Would you pay a monthly fee of $4.99 to use (upload videos to) YouTube? (Viewing videos would always remain free).
Is $4.99 a month too high? What would you consider a fair monthly subscription fee? $1.99, $2.99, $3.99?
Would you leave YouTube if they implemented a service charge to upload videos?
Do you have any ideas on how YouTube can make money, besides displaying ads, which they are already doing?
Do you have any other ideas on how YouTube can turn a profit?
None of us want YouTube to fail, but how long can a company last if they don't make money?
What's YOUR opinion!
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
Lou's thoughts: I'll be honest with you. I've had internet access since 1996, and I've NEVER ONCE clicked on a web based advertisement. So it comes as no surprise to me that YouTube isn't making any money.
But that's just me. Why haven't I clicked on any ads? I'm not sure, but if I had to come up with a reason, I guess it's because I don't have to.
Can you compare TV commercials to website advertising? How come TV ads work and web ads don't?
There has got to be a way for a gigantic company like YouTube to turn a profit, wouldn't ya think?

Have you ever really thought about our Universe?
I mean, how BIG is it? Does it actually END somewhere, or does it just go on and on, for ever and ever?
How can it end? If it stops somewhere, what's on the other side of where it stops? Emptiness?
This leads us to what this video is all about.
Considering the sheer size of our Universe, wouldn't it appear probable that life exists somewhere out there besides on our little planet Earth?
As always, please feel free to express your thoughts on this subject!
Thanks!
Peace!

Oh, I almost forgot:
I came across this really cool web-site where you can find tons of images, videos and music to use in your YouTube videos. Many of the videos are listed as being "In The Public Domain".
The web site is called "The Internet Archive". Here's a link, go check it out! http://www.archive.org/
They have so much stuff there, you'll love it!

Todays science project: Can we prove that God exists?
If we can't prove it scientifically, does that mean that God doesn't exist? What sort of proof is good enough to make a person believe in God?
Why would someone need proof that God exists to believe in God?
Why do some people not believe in God?
Why do some people believe in God?
Is everyone entitled to believe what they want to believe?
So, what do YOU believe in?
Yes, I'm taking a survey.
Please feel free to comment on your beliefs, if you wish to. Speak your mind, and your heart.
Peace.

SHHHHHHH! Quiet! This is a video cemetery. Have some darn respect!
We all have at least one! One what? We all have an old YouTube video that we simply can't watch anymore. Some have bad sound, some have bad acting. Some just plain SUCK. So, instead of deleting (cremating) them, give them the respect they deserve.
Bury them in Lou Ryder's YouTube Video Cemetery.
Simply assign your dead videos to THIS video as video responses. They will get a decent burial, and a nice resting place. (Who knows, some might even rise from the dead).
ALL video responses are Pre-Approved. No waiting around, stinking up the joint. No questions asked! Your dead videos deserve your utmost respect. Bury them TODAY, right HERE! It's FREE!
Okay, so to recap, pick your worst video(s) that you can't stand to watch anymore, and bring it to THIS cemetery, by assigning it as a video response. Your video will get a proper burial, and will Rest In Peace.
Video_50 v1 04-11-07 Do not read any further. Thank You. Stop here, please, Thank You.
Okay, you caught me, the cemetery is just a front. This is simply a silly attempt to break the record for Most Video Responses on YouTube. The current record is held by MadV for his 'one world' video, with 2247 responses. Please tell all your YouTubing friends about the LouRyder YouTube Virtual Video Cemetery. Be a part of a YouTube World Record Attempt! Rejoice! Oh, I mean, shhhhhhhh.

I've occasionally seen this beautiful bird over the past 2 or 3 years, flying through my yard. How he survives the winters here in New Jersey, I do not know. But anyway, on New Years Day I had off from work. I feed the birds and squirrels in my yard on a daily basis, so I'm always looking out the window at the action. I noticed the parakeet had returned, so I ran and grabbed my video camera, and I took this great footage.
Unfortunately, this story ends on a sad note. Immediately after I shot this video, I went inside and watched the footage on my TV. When I got back up to look outside to see if the parakeet was still there, I see this hawk sitting there, with the little parakeet neatly tucked under his huge talons. Nothing was moving, neither the hawk, nor the parakeet. Very bittersweet. Then, time regained momentum, and in a flash, the hawk flew off, holding the parakeet in its grasp.
Life is funny like that, isn't it? I mean, for years I couldn't get close to this bird. Then, in the last 15 minutes of its life, it practically walks right up to me.
