What You Do Matters: How You Can Preserve Rainforests And The Earth

142 views 1 month ago
http://PCIN.TV San Diego... The O2 For Life Foundation began in San Diego 10 years ago by Steve Blumkin, co-owner of Outrageous Rugs in San Diego. But the preserve is located on the shores of the Golfo Dulce in the Osa region of southwest Costa Rica, one of the most bio-diverse areas of the world. It's on the preserve where lives of U.S. inner-city children are transformed through trips to the preserve where they receive education on the rainforest, nature, and the environment.

"When these children return from the O2 For Life Preserve, their lives have been transformed. They have a greater understanding and awareness of nature, the environment and our entire eco-system," said Dominique Aubin, Director of Education, O2 For Life.

The O2 For Life Foundation's mission is to preserve, conserve, and create community involvement. Student-run chapters in San Diego high schools are helping spread the word and use the information they learn at the preserve here at home.

"We put organic food into high-heat plastic containers and quickly turn it into compost which we then have composting days where we spread it throughout our campus," said Ashley Daniels, former president of the student O2 For Life Club at La Costa Canyon High School.

The O2 For Life Foundation funds these trips for kids as well as pays its staff to continue to care for the preserve through its annual fundraiser, Rockin' The Rainforest at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. On Sunday April 28, 2013 beginning at 5:30 p.m. the public is invited to learn more about this precious preserve in Costa Rica and how things can be done right here in San Diego to preserve and conserve. Tickets can be purchased at http://BellyUp.com

Guests will hear commentary from Richard C. J. Somerville, Ph.D, the distinguished professor emeritus and research professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. They'll be treated to a Costa Rican meal, see the hot band, The DEVASTATORS, and bid on some fantastic silent auction items.

Local business are doing their part. in April, Outrageous Rugs will donate a portion of its rug sales to the O2 For Life Foundation.

The O2 For Life Rainforest Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of tropical nature. Our Foundation protects over 500 acres of land located in the Osa region of Costa Rica.
