At the circus, an armless knife thrower (Lon Chaney, Sr.) falls in love with his beautiful assistant (Joan Crawford). There are three problems, however: he isn't really armless, he's a ruthless killer, and she's in love with someone else. Directed by Tod Browning, this is one of the strangest and most intensely gripping of Chaney's films. His heart-wrenching performance in its final scenes is unrivaled to this day. Forgive the surviving print's occasional jump cut due to the ravages of time, and you will give it "three" thumbs up!

These two videos, played in order, comprise the entire motion picture starring Lon Chaney, Sr.; Mary Philbin, Norman Kerry and half the population of Lankershim, California. (Not really — just kidding!) It was released originally with Technicolor sequences; and, was later re-shot and re-released in 1929 with sound, save for The Phantom's dialogue. There is commentary at the beginning which was not part of the original nor later versions.
