'The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade' (or 'Marat/Sade', for short) was written by German playwrite, Peter Weiss, and was first published in German in 1963. Shotly thereafter it was successfully translated into English and performed on the London stage by the Royal Shakespeere Company before its debut on the New York stage. In 1968 it was made into a film directed by Pter Brook starring Glenda Jackson, Ian Richardson, and Patrick Magee. 'Marat/Sade' is a play within a play taking place on July 13, 1808, in the historical Charenton Asylum (now l'Hôpital Esquirol) where, at that time, the Marquis de Sade (Patrick Magee) was an inmate.
Soloists George Clark, Gergely Huszti, and Jaymi Bandtock and Sam Harper with the Saint Philips Boys' Choir, singing Ave Maria by Franz Schubert and Panis Angelicus by César Franck; also Paul Miles-Kingston and Sarah Brightman sing 'Pie Jesu'.
