Born in 1978 and raised in Ipoh, Weng San graduated from University Malaya with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 2002. He was a student leader in UM. He actively engaged in championing students' rights. He writes on current issues for major Chinese dailies, and was a regular columnist. He worked as a Process Engineer in a petrochemical consultancy firm in Kuala Lumpur for three years before joining the DAP as a full-timer in 2005. He has highlighted issues pertaining to the well-being of the city and its residents such as the illegal billboard issue, crime-fighting, corruption, the lack of good governance in local councils etc. He believes that PJ is ideal grounds for demanding good governance in Selangor as the state currently lacks the proper check-and-balance mechanisms due to the absence of a strong Opposition. Corruption is so rampant in the state that the environment is being sacrificed in the name of development, and PJ's green lungs are being snatched away right under our very noses. It is his fervent wish that PJ voters will cast their votes wisely so that a strong Opposition can be ushered into the State Assembly as well as Parliament.
