The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), referred to by some as the Los Angeles City Fire Department, is the full-spectrum life safety agency that protects the second largest city in the United States.

Founded in 1886, the LAFD is a highly respected agency of nearly 4,000 personnel (uniformed and civilian support staff) who offer fire prevention, firefighting, emergency medical care, technical rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, disaster response, public education and community service to a resident population of more than 4 million living in the agency's 471 square mile jurisdiction.
