Plasma Ball Lightning Generator & Tesla Coils kvaeffects - 286 views - 1 week ago
Building on the works of Russian scientist Sergei Stepanov and later, the Max Planck Institute in Berlin, kVA Effects creates a Plasma Ball Generator, two Tesla coils and two other high voltage exhibits for Technorama, the Swiss science museum.

Some believe that ball lightning and plasma balls are related phenomenon and physicists in Germany are using high speed, infrared and ultraviolet cameras to capture and study their nature and why they exsist.

Winding a Tesla Coil in Time Lapse kvaeffects - 1,817 views - 10 months ago
One and a half hours pass in under four minutes as kVA Effects winds a Tesla secondary coil in time lapse. Nick Ritter applies the two part epoxy coating while Jeff Parisse places the wire and Veikko Lepisto manages the supply spool. The soundtrack features Veikko and Jeff on Bass and drums respectively.

The secondary coil form is made of PVC, Garoliteā„¢ and fiberglass and the finely stranded, silver tinned wire is specially made for kVA Effects by Allied Wire and Cable. The dry red coating seen in the beginning of the video is an industrial high voltage treatment rated at 2100V/mil and is baked onto the prepared PVC form prior to winding. The liquid high voltage epoxy is formulated by 3M for kVA Effects and remains semi-rigid after it cures for a tough outer coating.

Our coils offer excellent mechanical strength, high voltage insulation and self healing properties. Used properly in a Tesla coil, they can produce electrical arcs several times longer than the coils themselves.
