*** On Youtube your video is competing with hundreds, or thousands, of videos worldwide within it's category, in the Youtube and Google search engines.
I'm using a 2007 Toshiba Laptop with Core2Duo, 2 Intel chips with 1.5 Ghz each, 17" screen, 185 Gig hard drive, Vista operating system, 32 bit
Favorite Video Tips and Ideas:
- Be Original. Don't be a copycat. Do something new. Be different. Use all original material. Don't use others' copyrighted content or music.
- Optimize Youtube search engine rankings. Your video is often in direct competition with thousands of other videos.
- Use your video's keywords in the first two words of the title, description and tags.
- Put your website URL in the lower third of your video by using the text animation in your video software.
- Put your website URL near the top of the description.
- Write a long description and use the keywords in quotes several times.
- Relevance is very important to Youtube's search rank. The keywords and the category you select need to go together. I put my "how to" videos in the Science and Technology category.
- Get your viewer's attention within 2 seconds of the video starting. They can always click to surf to another video to watch.
- Keep your viewer's attention by regaining it somehow every 10 seconds or less throughout the video. Otherwise they'll click to stop and browse to another video.
- Participate in the Youtube community, especially in your category. For instance, browse related videos and leave comments.
- Use your video as a "Video Response" to another video that has related content. It can only be used once this way.
- Use Youtube's Annotations if you want to add notes to the video.
- Use Youtube's Audioswap if you need music to add to your video. You might have a large file that is difficult for your computer to publish. If it has music, you can make the file smaller by leaving off the music and getting music at Youtube from Audioswap.
- If your video is too large to publish divide it into two or more videos, Part 1, Part 2, etc.
- If you get errors while trying to publish save your file, turn off and restart the computer, do a defrag, and try again.
- Try using bright colors, action, animation, unusual camera angles, and creativity to keep the viewer's attention.
- Experiment. Add a voice-over to the audio with a mic for instance.
- Optimizing search engine ranking on Youtube can also make your video show up on internet search engines such as Google and Yahoo.
- Youtube videos are often informal, spontaneous, a brief "slice of life." Watch for opportunities during the day that would be good on video.
- Check the "Insight" under "My Account" for your video statistics and data. What age groups watch your video, how long does the attention average last for your video before viewers stop to look for another?, etc.
- It goes without saying that the more times your video is embedded in other websites and viewed, the more those views will all add up. Each viewing contributes to the total.
- Use Youtube's Audioswap music or buy your own coyright and royalty free music. Do not use others' copyrighted music.
- Create your own all original material. Don't copy TV shows or others' material and present it in your video or use copyrighted music.
