About Me:

Sydney's genre-defying King Farook is at the vanguard of the musical melting pot that has been forging new styles throughout history. Regardless of where they draw their inspiration -- be it Funk, Rock, Hip-hop, Soul, Jazz, R'n'b, Latin or even Metal -- what's important to them is ensuring that the music itself constantly and consistently captivates audiences. Witness their energizer-bunny jaw dropper of a live show, or discover the songwriting genius that is their debut album Land of the Horny, and one thing is for certain: behind the larrikinism these guys are masters of their trade and aren't afraid to show it. Even their name (coming from the old-time saying "Who do you think you are, King Farook?") gives away their cheeky confidence in the fact that they're onto something special.

All five members of the band have come through the ranks of Sydney's tight-knit community of professional musicians and performers. Hard-earned experience has taught them exactly what works to whip a crowd of punters to fever pitch, and it's precisely because of those close ties with their community that they find themselves in the unique position of being championed by their musical peers while remaining underground. Those lucky enough to have stumbled across this amazing band have truly understood the joy of finding an undiscovered gem.

Forming under the banner of King Farook in 2006, they recorded their debut album Land of the Horny while firmly stamping their mark on Sydney's live music scene. Remaining independent, they funded the entire venture off their own backs. They followed their album launch to a capacity crowd at Sydney's Annandale Hotel the night before New Year's Eve 2006 with a blow-away performance the very next night as the surprise stars of Peats Ridge Festival.

Since then their profile has increased, winning competitions like the Epic Sydney Performers Challenge, gaining national radio airplay and touring interstate. As the word-of-mouth buzz grows, it's just a matter of time before the music of King Farook finds its rightful place in the hearts of music-lovers everywhere. With any luck, they could even be the next in a long line of musical exports that Australia has proudly given the world.

I just discovered your music recently in the cd player of a friend's car. I'm absolutely blown away by the kinda music you are churning out, it's spectacular to listen to. I love the music from a lot of your influences, and just hearing them all mesh together is like, it's unbelievable but i'm so happy a band like this has come out of my own home town. Another group of musicians who like Ice Cube, Tupac, AND the chili peppers and marcus miller?! *jaw drop*. Please keep writing and recording more songs, you guys are absolutely great.
