Kibbutz Lotan is a community located in the desert of Southern Israel in the Arava Valley next to the border with Jordan.

With cow and goat dairies, watsu massage, and a tourism business, Lotan also specializes in ecology + permaculture, offering a "Green Apprenticeship" program.

"We are not lords of the universe. We're one small part of it. We may be its consciousness, but being the conscious of the universe does not mean turning it into a mirror image of us. It means rather fitting into it as it is, and worshiping it with our attention." (Red Mars)

"If future generations are to remember us more with gratitude than with sorrow, we must achieve more than just the miracles of technology. We must also leave them a glimpse of the world as it was created, not just as it looked when we got through with it." (President Lyndon Johnson)

Well, first you can subscribe to the channel and join us as a friend here on You Tube.

Stay tuned for more videos to be posted in the near future.

Currently, my administrative duties of the You Tube channel are on pause as I am busy in Lotan's "Green Apprenticeship" course.

Meanwhile, you're always welcomed to visit us here in Israel....we're not too far from Turkey and right on the border with Jordan....so, you can stop here for any visit to Petra or Wadi Rum.

Also, tell your friends about our "Green Apprenticeship" program....more details are found at our website www.kibbutzlotan.com

beautiful people, beautiful place (Lotan) from what im reading and seeing. I first heard of it on doing research on geodesic domes. Coincidentally i was doing research on communes and came across kibbutzism. Lo and behold I now see my two curiosities manifested in Lotan (also have been interested in permaculture recently and have found out that it is being studied there.) From a Turkish American living in New York City -- my heart is in Lotan !!! Please post more videos, the world is watching! Thank you all so much!

People ask that question all the time.

*First, I am not the 'expert' on the subject. I am just an intern that runs the You Tube channel; however, from what I've been told by the teachers here is that building with mud works in any climate, it's how you plan for the rain in your construction that matter. For example, you need to put "shoes" on your mud-building. This entails making a 'water-proof' barrier between the floor and the mud walls. We use old tired, re-used concrete blocks from construction sites, gravel and plastic sheeting ( although I think the plastic is for termites ). Also, what you can do is use oil to water proof the water. We take the grease form the kitchen here and mix it with turpentine in a number of mixtures and coats. I am told you can also use egg whites (but that woulld be a lot of eggs, I guess, for a whole building unless you find a factory/kitchen that throws away its whites).

Very cool place! Those domes work fine over there in the desert, but how do you think they would work out in areas with a lot more rain?
